My husband and I have vacationed in Newfoundland in July for many years but never went to Skipper Hot's for a meal and now I can't imagine why. We had gone before to hear the band--yes there is a band and they have a couple...of CDs and to have a drink. This year we were starving and there was Skipper Hot's so why not. We expected pub food but what we found was a full menu. Everything was fresh and home made. Our waiter was so friendly and explained the menu choices and described the dishes. We both had moose burgers DELICIOUS and moose stew also DELICIOUS. How stupid of us not to have tried the food before. We certainly won't make that mistake again. Looking forward to our next meal!More

After being turned away from one restaurant and hungry late in the afternoon, we decided to drop in thinking we’d at best get okay pub food. Instead we got great fish and nice crispy chips, cold beer, a friendly bartender and good free wifi! We...were surprised and wished we were staying another night to visit again in the evening with the live music.More

Best burger we have had in weeks. All patties are hand made, not frozen. Fries were skinny fries, not a wedgie. Gravy for fries was awesome. Very clean, friendly and close to the National Park. Great little spot!

We are traveling and friends suggested this place. We had passed up previous. We went in. For the size of town, it was crowded. My partner wanted some seafood, I wanted a burger. In typical Newfoundland style, my partner was told the Skippers plate was...better than the fish and chips. I was told they were too busy to cook burgers or chicken( it was on the menu), but I could get seafood or poutine! So I ordered on the previous advice. As we sat, sipping on a local craft beer, like everywhere in Newfoundland, we chatted with the neighbors. The food was hot and the basket was piled high! Unlike most plates of this kind, only a small serving of fries, 80% was delicious morsels of seafood! Highly recommended! Almost an insist you have to go!More

Went for the music and to be screeched in. Fantastic place. Great fun and music, some laughs and a meal. This is the place to be!!! Other people we talked to there were wishing they had waited to be screeched in here. They said it...was done much better than where they had gone. So much fun!!!More

We stayed at Snorri cabins and as we had come in late needed to find a place to eat. We ended up here for a basket of food, a few beers and some great music on a Friday night. Really enjoyed it here!

We dropped in here hoping to get noon lunch, and also to ask about the music Friday nights (which we were told might be happening). We missed the music by one week. This was mid-September, so be aware that neither the lunch/ dinner nor the...music will likely be available after very early September. However, that should not stop you from dropping by and chatting with the owner/bartender. We had 2 beers with him, and tons of fun. He played us one of their Skipper Hots Band CD's and we happily bought it as a great souvenir. I love the traditional musical style of their music. If you ask nicely, the bartender may show you his Ugly Stick (don't get any ideas - that is a homemade Newfie musical instrument.)More

This is the experience we were looking for - great mix of locals and tourists, and the music/entertainment was exceptional. We had such a fun night, got screeched in and did lots of dancing too.

Been to this place multiple times. Bar is open in evenings and night, with pub food also available in the evenings. Sometimes they have a band in to play live music which brings out a crowd of locals and visitors. In the summer, on Fridays...they have "Newfie night" where tourists can listen to traditional Newfoundland music and get "Screeched In" as an honorary Newfoundlander. Lots of fun!More

We heard that a group were playing at the Skipper Hot's Lounge on Friday night. So we went to see what the Newfie entertainment was. It was great! We had lots of fun and even completed the "Newfie screech-in". You must go through certain rituals...then you drink the screech and get to kiss the cod!!! Good for lots of laughs. This makes the individual an "Honourary Newfie"! The band was great and everyone was up dancing! A must when you are in the area!More
