On a recent visit to Fogo I noticed this restaurant right across the street from our accommodations. I figured what the heck I'll order some egg rolls and they were awesome. The lady was in there cooking away in her kitchen, with large vats on...the stove, it was all very surreal but the egg rolls.... excellent.More

The only Chinese food on the island I've had much better Canadian Chinese. The big table of diners were having steak and fries.

The food is good, the service is "family informal," the prices are fine. The beer is often served warm, there may be a wait while "Mom" cooks the food, there may be a language issue when ordering. TwoInMaine sticks to fish, rice dishes, and anything...not traditionally served "brown," and we do just fine. A pleasant change from other island eatieries, and it has been here long enough to stand the test of time.More

We tried this restaurant because there weren’t many options on Fogo Island. The food was nice and hot but we were used to chow mein having noodles. Our dish did not. It had mostly cabbage and a tiny bit of carrots and celery. There was...only about 5 thin pieces of pork. It wasn’t that flavourful and not very filling. We were disappointed. At least it wasn’t that pricey. We had to ask again for our drinks as the woman who took our order was also the cook.More

Called up and she said it will be half an hour. Got there a half an hour later and still had to wait another hour. Heard rats in the wall while standing up waiting to get our food. Asked to pay separately and the women...working freaked out at us after making us wait for an hour and a half. THEN I gave her the money to pay and she didn’t give me the change and continued to make other orders. I was so fed up I just left.More

What a great place! We stubbled into this restaurant late in the evening and really enjoyed ourselves. The food was great and the service was lovely. The owner is a true gem and her food sparkles. I would definitely recommend coming in for some food...and drinks when visiting Fogo!More

Located on Main Street right after the church. It is a nondescript white building but the sign is noticeable from the road. There was one woman doing all the cooking and I think her son was helping out as it was busy the night we...were there. The Hawaii Three-0 was delicous and plentiful. The garlic chicken wings and fried rice were also very good. The wings were small & cut so the wings and tips were seperate but there was meat on everything. Everything coming out of the kitchen looked good. Highly recommend.More

I ordered a family size of chow mein as there are not many vegetarian option and ended devouring the entire thing...amazing! I was with three other people and they were all saying how it was the best they have eaten in years. Only drawback is...it is quite grubby, perhaps if I was ever on Fogo again I would get takeout.More

After being in NL for over a week and barely seeing any vegetables on offer in restaurants, we were ready for a more healthy meal, and Kwang Tung did not disappoint! The Mae Lai chicken with veg was not as spicy hot as we'd have...liked, being the chili-heads that we are, but there was a mild buzz in the mouth. The special chow mein had a bit of everything, including some egg noodles, as we were not in the mood for rice. To be fair, the exact same veggies were in both dishes, and in a similar sauce, aside from the spiciness of the one dish. But after going so long without veggies, we devoured everything! We also had the garlic ribs, which were braised to tender, fall off the bone goodness. Not the dry ribs you get in Mainland Canada. Much better! I had read the Globe and Mail article about Chinese-Canadian food in remote places, and had already decided to try Kwang Tung, and we were pleasantly surprised with the fresh veggies and good quality food. Not an attractive place at all, but really good, honest, and actually healthy food! Service is slow because the owner/operator does everything herself. Alone. Runs the take-out window, cooks all the food, cleans and waits tables in the cafe. So be patient and be kind, and you will find much joy. Oh wait, that was what my fortune cookie said! But true!More

I was so looking forward to this, after not having anything "green" for days. I was starving. I waited an HOUR for my one dish. Then, it arrived...like canned Chun King I used to eat after High School. Everything on the plate tastes the same...in tasteless gravy. And NO RICE! What kind of Chinese Food doesn't come with rice??? I asked, and she wanted $6 extra for an order of rice. Well, I've been out hiking all day, and I don't have enough cash on me to pay for rice. (She doesn't take credit cards.) So I ask...."What kind of Chinese Restaurant does not serve rice with the entrees?" She starts yelling at me, waving the menu in the air, and berating me in front of other customers. So I just hang my head low and don't make eye contact, hoping the yelling will stop soon....all because I asked for rice. In a Chinese restaurant....More

We ask for a recommendation on where to eat in Fogo & were told there are only two restaurants, a bar & grill or a Chinese restaurant. We opted for the Chinese one. I must admit it was a little scary looking both inside &...out, compared to the normal for us, but we decided to give it a chance anyway. It appears to be a one woman operation. The lady who runs it is extremely friendly & helpful. She made the food fresh & it arrived at our table piping hot. Generous portions & great value. Take note though, it's cash only!More

Kwang Tung Restaurant is one of the few restaurants where you can have a healthy meal on Fogo Island. The owner, who is also the cook, prepares stir fry dishes with a lot of fresh vegetables. We were in Figo for a few days, and I had read about this restaurant and particularly, the wonderful cook. We were not disappointed--the food was freshly prepared, and well-presented and delicious. Our party of four adults and two toddlers were delighted. Of course, we...had to get past the faded Pepsi sign and the plastIc coveRed tablecloths, but we enjoyed a fine meal for a great price!More

We were drawn to this gem of a restaurant as a result of an article in the Toronto Globe and Mail. The owner is also the cook and she delivers bountiful meals, tasty, well-cooked, and delivered hot. In our party of six, we tried most...of the menu, and we were all delightfully surprised. Don't be put off by the faded Pepsi sign, the sheet plastic covered table cloths, or the simplicity of the venue--the food is great!!More
