I had two meals at the Scarlet Ibis and both were delicious. Lunch was fish tacos and poutine and dinner was a burger and fries. All were very fresh and tasty. The staff was very friendly. I also stayed in one of the adventure huts overnight and it was great. Showers were small but good. The host left complimentary muffins and coffee in the morning. This is a great stop for bikepackers. The only thing I hope they add are coin operated (or free) laundry.

My niece and I recently traveled to one of the most remote beaches on Vancouver Island - San Josef Bay. Our road trip found us staying two nights a the most remote pub on Vancouver Island - the Scarlet Ibis. We were met with friendly faces, terrific burgers, clean washrooms and showers, and a comfortable adventure hut. We felt very well taken care of by Teresa and Dale the ladies who were working while we were there, and we felt very safe as well during our stay. I highly recommend this iconic North Vancouver Island landmark put for a meal or an overnight stay any time you should find yourself road tripping up that way.

We stayed here on our way to San Josef bay. Check in was easy. We decided to have a beer and some food on our first day. Waitress was great food was medicore but the beer cold. We loved the hut it was everything you need. The showers were a bonus. Only thing that would have been added touch was the free wifi as they had very many options: when asked the lady said she didn’t know the password. We stopped on our way back for beer and had the manager serve us when my partner asked what other beer .. she rudely said there is no other you know where you are right. I thought it was a bit funny but rude at the same time we probably spent with our stay $400 there in a few days. Appreciate the tourists…

Went on recommendation of travel group for fish and chips. Food arrived after quite a wait. Batter on the fish was so thick and raw!! We did talk to the nice server and were offered another item on menu. Given the long wait in the first place due to short staffing we did not want to wait further and they charged full price for 3 undercooked fish and chips that was inedible- very disappointing and not recommended

Stopped at this ultra cool pub and restaurant on our way through Holberg - beautiful location, delicious food, stunning views, and very affordable prices for the large portions. I love love love the owner, she is so very hopsitable (as it the whole Hamlet). I would highly reccomend a visit to the Scarlet Ibis.

We were very pleased to enjoy delicious burgers and beers at the characterful Scarlet Ibis Pub after our three day hike to Cape Scott. They have new safety protocols in place and also have a rockin jukebox. They also sell chocolate bars, eggs and milk and a few other basics for anyone wanting to stock up before arriving at the park. They are open 3-8 pm so plan to visit in the afternoon or early evening.

Whenever I go to San Jo Bay, theres always a rush to catch the low tide or the weather is foul, and we skip the Ibis. However, after 30 years of missing the experience, the infamous Scarlet Ibis was on the itinerary. After a long day of rough roads, incredible scenery and interesting hiking, we were pleased to be able to sit out on the scenic deck and enjoy a brief reprieve before heading back to civilization. The server was pleasant and our menu selections were fine. I can’t imagine how difficult it must be to operate a pub in the middle of nowhere. The logistics of it all are daunting as the road in, though not all that far in distance, rattles your bones and takes a good two hours. I was thrilled to see that a row of bunkies has been added and hope to take advantage of this on my next trip. Maybe they will have a pet friendly hut by then. They are very basic and the toilet is shared, but would allow us to be closer to the trail head early in the day. So thrilled to see a black bear down the beach. There is a selection of souvenir attire available but nothing grabbed me as the logo needs updating.

I don’t remember the last time I had such bad food. The fish and chips was disgusting. Dark brown, limp, greasy fries. The fish was inedible. It tasted it like microwaved old food. We left our food unfinished. I don’t recommend this at all. Save your money.

Had a great night staying in one of the Adventure cabins the Pub offers. Good music and fun playing darts. Nice view from the deck and a cool place to hang out after a dusty ride to Winter harbour, the beautiful beach at Grants bay and the numerous Bears we saw along the way. Tasty Burger and Onion rings, Cold beer. Staff is super friendly.

Awesome local spot. Rent one of their new Adventure cabins for 2 nights. Clean, equipped with beds, fridge, electric, baseboard heating, chairs. Shared washroom and showers spotless. Restaurant has lots of options and great food. Bonus - 2 local brews on tap. Lots of indoor seating and deck seating..friendly and accommodating. Close to San Joaef Cove and many other excellent hikes and beaches

Beautiful location with an amazing view from the deck, yummy food (especially the burgers). They were a bit low on staff when we went, but we were happy to enjoy the view while we waited.

Stopped in after a hike and had refreshments but I imagine this place rocks at night. Basic Pub menu, craft brews and snacks. Great deck for visiting.

After hearing people rave about this place in the past and learning about the place having new owners, my partner and I, along with our two young boys, decided to stop in for dinner on our way back from Grant Bay. We were greeted and given a table and menu’s right away, but I had noticed the table was filthy- so I asked the waitress to please give it a wipe down for us, but I was given attitude immediately.. then the waitress informed us that it was dirty from the day before. We finally ordered after having to wait a while for the waitress to come back, but it didn’t take too long for the food to make it to our table(The cook had to come out and look at the menu special before preparing our food). Unfortunately, it was extremely disappointing… The flavour was very much lacking, and the portion sizes were small. The food was not very warm.. it was very basic with just no flavour, no love, and no passion put into the food at all. It was odd that there was not a lot of seafood on the menu, given the location. The paper menu’s were not very hygienic or appealing, there is no way to keep these clean. It was quite disgusting actually. There was a used condom wrapper in the parking lot as well. Overall, it was a disappointing experience, and we will not be going back. It is unfortunate, because this business has so much potential! Hopefully one day it will get there.

Went for a getaway with friends to Northern Vancouver Island and had the best time. This is a place everyone must visit. From the food, cabins, and scenery to the beer. Will go back to explore more areas.
