Have been to this restaurant several times now and have always been hugely impressed. Last night we had the 3-course midweek set menu and for just 20 pounds I enjoyed a delicious antipasti, a super tasty pasta dish with rich flavours and a divine tiramasu. With large glasses of excellent house white and red wine for just 6.50, I seriously doubt you can find better value anywhere that this.

Popped in for a Saturday lunch time treat and were not disappointed. They unfortunately were short of staff front of house on this day, and it showed with the lack of experience from the poor lady who had to move from the kitchen to waiting, but I’ll overlook that as we all suffer unexpectedly at some point! The food was incredible. I had a Spanish casserole with chicken and chorizo and the flavours were incredible, and it was very filling. My wife’s pizza was also very tasty. The head chef had to come out front to assist now and again and he was extremely friendly and funny, and kept us updated how the cooking was going! There is definitely a relaxed Italian feel to the restaurant! The dishes won’t win any awards for presentation but this is totally acceptable as the flavour of the food is amazing. This is proper rustic Mediterranean home cooking. As some people have said, this is probably the best restaurant in a 20 mile radius. Looking forward to our next visit. Some minor criticism (and this is more for the owners) is the music needs changing to something a little more ‘relaxing’ and ‘chilled’ (it doesn’t have to be jaunty Italian music!) and we weren’t offered any bread or olives or water (but as I already said I realise you were short of staff). Overall though, a fantastic restaurant and all the best for the future.

We always enjoy an evening here - lovely food, delicious wine and friendly staff. In these worrying times we may not be venturing out too often for a while, so made a visit here. Happy to see compulsory hand gel for customers on arrival and menus being sanitised between users. The mid-week 3-course special (Tues/Wed) was great value and wow! the food was spectacularly good. Very generous portions, too. Service was excellent and Angelo as entertaining as ever. We were glad we went, and incredibly sad that things will be so tough for businesses like this which are just establishing themselves. We wish you all the best and truly hope we will see you on the other side of this nightmare.

We were so looking forward to eating here, we booked weeks in advance based on the reviews, some locals had suggested it was not great but we decided to give it a go anyway. The gambas for starters was great really flavoursome sauce and the mussels were ok, when the main course arrived there was absolutely no flavour at all , we were unable to eat them , when we complained the owner said these were their most popular dishes however they did not have any flavour . It is really rare for us to complain but they made us feel really uncomfortable. Fair enough they did take all the food off the bill, we were planning to offer to pay for the starters however the comment of the waitress that no-one ever complains about our food made us feel even more uncomfortable about complaint so we just paid for the wine and left. We left hungry as the main course lacked any flavour at all and went to rumbles for a bag of chips. Another point of complaint is that we were clearly seen as tourists and not offered the special menu that locals who arrived after were offered, whilst this is not a major issue as we would have ordered from the main anyway it makes us feel that we were just treated as tourists.

Hello Anniepc, we are very sorry if you had a bad experience at Naxos and it was not our intention to let you feel unconfortable as we mentioned that we haven't had a complain about your choosen dishes before , I was just surprised about it. I came personally from the kitchen to say sorry, I asked if you would like to try something else, I offered you to not pay for your main course and we didn`t charge you for the starters eighther.....Sorry, but I don`t know any additional way to say sorry when I make a mistake. Only one thing...."tourist". I have worked for tourists over 30 years, I choose to work for them all around Europe. Me too, when in holiday, I am a tourist.....For us a tourist is a very appreciated customer. We just forgot to offer you our set menu......( i think is easy to deduce in a period of shortage of staff, delivery, petrol, gas...................)

Finally got around to visiting Naxos in Downham Market. We opted to sit outside in a delightfull courtyard that was decked out and had a fresh feel. We were warmly welcomed by the host and offered both an a la carte menu. and a set menu. We both opted for the set menu for £22 each. For starters we had bread and garlic mayo with olives and steamed mussels. Nice rustic and toasted bread was served with both starters. For mains we had vegetable Tajine with cous cous and Spanish chicken with vegetables. Both meals were served hot and the chicken was tender and moist. Desert we both had Tiramisu, and this was a twist on the usual tiramisu in that the sponge was surrounded by cream. Lovely and fresh feeling on the palate . Excellent meal and will definatly eat here again.

We had stumbled across this during a Christmas walk and booked to return - we were absolutely not disappointed. There was a lovely warm welcome, the waiter was very young but could not have been more polite and helpful and the atmosphere was just lovely and calm, despite being half full at just 6.30. The menu gave lots of options and a good vegetarian selection rather than just 1 choice. I actually plumped for seafood and my partner had pasta and the food was hot and delicious. The desserts were clearly homemade but tasted wonderful and we were surprised by the value for money once the bill arrived. We will thoroughly recommend and will absolutely be back again - thank you

I don’t really write reviews but I feel this restaurant truly deserves one. It’s has a nice cosy atmosphere with very friendly, knowledgeable staff who are more than willing to help you pick from a comprehensive menu. The food didn’t disappoint either and the chef is clearly passionate about serving good authentic Mediterranean ingredients - it is miles above what you would receive from a pasta/pizza chain restaurant. All in all I would certainly recommend Naxos to anyone wanting a good meal out in Downham Market.

My wife and I booked to go here for what we hoped would be a special meal with two friends that we had not seen for some time. When I booked I was asked if I wanted a table inside or out. I said I would like to eat outside provided the weather was ok. I thought this was the ‘safest’ option under the present circumstances and had seen on the website that’s there was apparently a pleasant outdoor courtyard. On the day for which we had booked it had been raining on and off throughout the afternoon and was raining heavily when we arrived at the restaurant in the evening. We were rather surprised to be told that there were no tables free inside and we were asked if we would like to have a look outside. The seating area outside was bleak to say the least. There was no table laid, no heating and needless to say no one else out there. There was rain dripping on to the tables. We said that we were not willing to eat outside and we were left with no other choice but to leave. We were given no explanation or apology. Given that I had booked about 2 weeks before and we had travelled 20 miles to get there we were very disappointed. Fortunately, the Castle hotel was opposite where we were given a very warm welcome and had a lovely meal which saved the evening.

Spur of the moment dinner midweek. The ambience was lovely, nice gentle music in the background that didn't disturb conversation. Lovely setting. The service was excellent, waitress very attentive without being obtrusive and able to meet our needs. The food was second to none. You know when you eat out you usually find that one or two dishes are really good and the rest OK, but here every dish we tried was delicious. Starter of mussels with lemon and pepper - large bowl and utterly delicious. Our mains were seafood linguine and braised beef ragu. The linguine was as good as we had in Rome. The braised beef was melt in the mouth. For dessert, mojito cheesecake. The cheese-bit was so light. For a three course meal, I left pleasantly full without feeling uncomfortable. During mid-week, there is a set dinner for a very reasonable cost. Highly recommended and we will definitely return.

We thought we would try out this Italian as now local for us. Would recommend the Prawns for starter , lovely flavour and the Slow braised beef for the main . We also had the Chicken in wine , which was lovely , however we was expecting more veg and wine sauce . Only received 3 half new potatoes, 2 pieces of pepper and a piece of onion. The wine sauce was a drizzle , not enough to go with the chicken. So we thought for £18 for this main was a bit expensive. For dessert the Mojito cheesecake was well presented , however not much flavour so a bit disappointing . Also the Tiramisu was not quiet what I expected , a cream dome with a little bit of Tiramisu in the middle . Nicely presented , but to much cream on the outside and not enough Tiramisu . Our evening was not a nice relaxing evening out as we thought it would be , due to a rude loud table next to us , no consideration for other diners . I know it is not the restaurants fault, so we will try another night soon .

It would be hard to better this place - food and wine are always faultless and the service delightful. The set menu (only Mon-Weds I think) is excellent value with a good variety of options. We have been many times over the years and are glad to see that word of mouth is working well for a lovely restaurant in a very unlikely place. This one is worth travelling for, but book ahead. Such a hard-working couple and their friendly team deserve every success.

We came here spontaneously on a visit to Downham Market, and we knew we'd made a good call when we were taken out to the lovely outdoor seating area - a sweet patio area with olive trees and lights. The menu was diverse but not overwhelming, and there was something for everyone with a main focus on pasta, pizza and risotto style dishes. The food was flavourful and really good portion sizes, and the staff were really helpful. I requested an affogato for desert which was not on the menu, however they made it specially for me - thank you!

We went on a Wednesday night when they do a set 3 course menu for £22. There was a very good choice of food. The food was absolutely delicious. The staff were lovely and friendly. We enjoyed it so much we have booked for next week and are taking friends with us !!

The food here is always amazing, never had a bad meal. Home prepared, cooked and always very fresh. Lots of gluten free options, though I always mention this when booking. Lots of work has been done to convert the back garden to a really cosy dining area. Cannot believe the review from 'John A' of Ely. You don't seriously expect a restaurant to hold a table inside and outside, just in case the weather doesn't suit you? The owners cannot be responsible for the great British weather! You also say nobody else was outside, yet the date ties in with my sister and partner eating outside, on an evening which was very miserable. They came home to collect my nephew and explained a vile group who arrived, berated the owner's wife (who is very timid), left in a strop and then they later saw in the Castle Hotel. I'm sure it's not a coincidence. If only there was a 'customeradvisor' website.
