I was so happy to find this cafe. Been to Kitimat multiple times but didn’t know it was there. The cupcakes were delicious and so was my coffee.

When Seven Tables quietly opened about a year ago, I admit to being moderately intrigued. They maintained a fairly strong presence on social media, actively promoting their sweet treats and hearty soups. The propaganda photos of cupcakes and cakes looked most enticing and intriguing. Who...but only those with the strongest of wills could ignore their call? Thus, I made it a point to patronize this establishment when next in the area. The fateful day came at August’s sunrise. After ambling about the exciting Kitimat mall (see my earlier review on this site), I made my way to ground level and towards the Vitality building, which hosts Seven Tables on the adjacent side. The atmosphere of Seven Tables is what I’ll call “modern.” In the past, I’d say this is a good look, but lately it seems as though everybody and their mother is fashioning their café space in a similar way: Chalkboard menus, minimalist décor and open ceiling with piping exposed. It’s all quite bourgeois. I was happy to see Seven Tables taking the COVID-19 pandemic seriously. Seating capacity has been reduced by half so as to promote physical distancing (and yes, there ARE “seven tables” in the establishment); hand-sanitizer is available to you upon entry; all staff are wearing face masks; and, a plexiglass barrier has been erected at the cashier’s area. For a small café, they’ve done a good job in this regard because the measures in no way detracted from my dining experience. Bravo! When it came to the food offerings, I was a tad disappointed. First, there were no cupcakes to be had, nor were there any soups. Boo-urns. Not all was lost, however, because they did have a German Chocolate cake and a couple of scones on display. We decided to procure a slice of the cake, a raspberry scone, smoothie and coffee beverage. The Raspberry Scone was my least favourite item: It tasted stale and, to be blunt, I was left asking, “Where’s the raspberries?” They were almost non-existent! The smoothie – Raspberry Peach – was decent. I was able to discern the raspberries, peaches and a hint of honey. The drink was refreshing and needed after the stale scone. The German Chocolate cake came in a large serving (too large, I think), but it was good. The cake itself was moist, and its exterior “crust” of pecans and coconut was spot on, adding some nice texture. FOOD: 3/5 SERVICE: 3/5 VALUE: 4/5 RECOMMENDATION: Overall, I felt the offerings at Seven Tables were good, but not great. The scone fell flat; the smoothie was flavourful but too runny for my liking; and the chocolate cake was good. Thus, there seems to be some inconsistency as far as execution goes. Reflecting back, there’s not a whole lot that distinguishes this place from, say, Dolce Verona. Both carry that hipster vibe; both place emphasis on health foods while concomitantly promoting sweet treats (ironic); and both are small establishments. While it’s far from “One of the top places to eat in Northwest BC,” I would likely attend again if only to sample a soup and cupcake next time. Siren’s Song keeps a calling! Very mild recommendation. We drove down to Kitimat on the long weekend to sample the wonderful goodies displayed on The Seven Tables Facebook page. We were particularly set on getting the intricate cupcakes they have on their photos. We noticed the pandemic measures, from the staff wearing masks,...the physical distancing signs to the sanitizers, and lesser seating capacity in place. Their location is quite strategic, just within the plaza and a transit stop - a good traffic source of customers. The exterior of the cafe is also eye-catching - beginning with the roomy patio seating and the modern and open-concept interiors. We found the design to be somewhat relaxing to get your caffeine or sweet treats to enjoy. The staff were busy but managed to stay polite and efficient. We were sad to find out that there were no cupcakes yet in their cafe display - as they were just starting to open the cafe. But we were still considering their menu which you can see easily at the counter. My partner and I decided on Raspberry Smoothies and Raspberry Scone, and Latte and German Chocolate Cake. The smoothie was great (slid right down the throat), the scone was not as exciting as we only found a sparse amount of raspberry bits in it - it almost tasted like a regular scone. The latte was very hot (which is good) and the cake was moist and soft - it did not taste thick once in your mouth. The portions were quite generous, and the single-use containers were smart and safer. We stayed for a short time, packing what was left of the scone and cake as we headed back to our day's adventure journey. We enjoyed our short and sweet visit and we are likely to drop by again if we are in the Kitimat area - hopefully with some cupcakes to take!More

Food is exceptional, as well as service. Although I am a Tim Hortons fan, the coffee is pretty good here. One of the top places to eat in Northwest BC. If you are ever in Kitimat, be sure to stop here for a coffee, wrap,...sandwich or whatever.More
