We arrived much later than expected - others of our party arrived even later than us - and the restaurant stayed open past hours and served us all beautiful and delicious food. I highly recommend staying and dining at Fosshotel Hellnar!
We stayed a cottage just up the street from here and cooked most of our own meals but decided to treat ourselves to dinner out one night at the Hellnar Hotel. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the meal. We ate the lamb...and both immensely enjoyed it. Service and food were both quite good.
In fairness, I would probably have given this 5 stars if we had not eaten lunch in another town that we deemed our best meal ever so in comparison we have to knock off a star.More
We stayed at the Foss Hotel Hellnar and dined here all three evenings. We were very pleasantly surprised by the high quality of the food!
The dining rooms themselves are simple and unpretentious but with beautiful views of the coast below. Service is very friendly....Having three dinners there, we were able to try most items on the small menu - all were delicious. We especially enjoyed their seafood soup and the cod. The mushroom barley risotto was very rich and especially tasty.
Highly recommend! Food here was far better than restaurants in Reykjavik!More
We visited for dinner, we were staying in a cottage a 5 minute walk away. The restaurant is warm and welcoming, the staff are polite and attentive. We were 2 adults & 2 kids (12 & 9). We didn’t get a table with a view...unfortunately but the sea view is amazing from this restaurant.
To start we shared the baked Camembert and frozen goats cheese starter.
My husband had the fish of the day, Ling, on a cauliflower purée, he said it was delicious, my daughter had the tomato soup and fresh bread which she thoroughly enjoyed. I had the cod, with sautéed potatoes and buttered, cooked lettuce which was also delicious. My son had the barley risotto which was a little fancy for a 9 year old and not really his taste. My husband had the rhubarb pie for dessert, rhubarb jam on a thick biscuit base which he enjoyed. Wine & drinks were good.
Quite an expensive restaurant but fantastic quality. They should try to have a couple of options for their younger visitors to enjoyMore
Great food and great service. And a view to endlessly gaze at and sometimes to forget you have a partner. I had the scallops for starters and then the cod for main. Both perfectly cooked and the sauce delisious.
Best meal we had in Iceland! I had the lamb and my partner had the fish soup, which is one of his favourite meals at home on the East Coast. It may have been the best he’d ever had. We highly recommend this place!
