I went to the Lake House Bistro for dinner and loved it. Very nice staff, excellent food, I had their pasta dish of the day, and a nice wine selection from which I chose a Malbec I never had before. It turned out to be...a great wine. And the prices are reasonable. I will return to this restaurant and bring my friends, too. It's a nice place for just any day or for a special occasionMore
Visiting in the area. Google suggests 1886. Good reviews. Visually very nice and warm inside. Cute boutique atmosphere. Very pleasant staff. ( they don't due reservations, but not along wait) Gives you a chance to check out their homemade products as you wait. (we took...some home) Started with Roasted Garlic. Cranberry compote, warm herb goat cheese, thyme, parsley, chives, toasted crostinis . Absolutely amazing. Followed by an Arugula Caesar. Original concept and very good considering the romaine lettuce shortage. Wifey had the French Bistro Onion Soup. Caramelized sweet onions, port wine, herbs, beef broth, buttered croutons, Gruyere cheese. Then came the high point of the meal. Duck Rillette. Pulled duck, duck confit, brandy, garlic cloves, caramelized cherry preserve, microgreens, olive oil balsamic port reduction, baguette points One of the best appetizers I have ever had anywhere. Would return just to have this. The mains did not continue the amazing experience. Sorry to say. I had a steak. side fries, side Arugula Caesar and an extra side of the wild mushroom risotto Wifey had Fish special, pureed veg, and the buckwheat risotto. Salt... Salt... and more Salt I actually think it was a error, perhaps it was salted 2 or three times. But we didnt finish any of it. Then desert was back on track. Lemon tart and a homemade apple crumble Both very nice. Would we go back, sure. But may just stick with the Apps.More
Definitely a place worth going to, even when you live over an hour away. The food is amazing and always brought to you by a great serving staff. Even something like meatloaf is done with a terrific flavour. If your a fan of wine this...restaurant has a great selection.More
If you treat yourself occasionally make sure to put this place on your top list of restaurants to visit. Everything and I mean everything was top notch. The wait staff were beyond exception and the gentleman who we think was the owner, could be seen...helping out his staff delivering drinks, food etc. Where do you see that ever happen. The food ! ohhhh my the pickeral dinner was the best we've had so far. Add rizzotto balls and this meal ranked right up there. So, we highly recommend this place as being our new favourite restaurant. Pat & DianeMore
Nice waterfront location and the food and service are amazing. We ate here twice on our stay in Callander. I would recommend the Pickerel dinner so so good. The staff was very helpful and friendly. I would highly recommend when visiting the North Bay area.
The presentation, the portions and the taste of the pork and Arctic char were all first rate! Jasmine was very pleasant, provided attentive service and great suggestions for our meals.
Extra ordinary food with a complete selection of beers, wines & spirits. Service was prompt & professional. Locally sourced lngredients comprise many of the food choices.
Service excellent food very good. But do not order the creme brulee . the top sugar crust very thick could hardly break it with my spoon and was so well done it was dark brown and bitter. I think it was the owner, He was...very curt and not very nice about it, told us that is the way it is and they serve 30 at least per week .. I have had alot of creme brulee from here to Mexico and it has never been like this. I definatley do not recommend any one order it. What a let down after a great meal.More
My wife and I enjoyed a delicious, perfectly portioned lunch. Menu selection offered unique and tasty choices at reasonable prices. We found that the food was well balanced in that none of the ingredients overpowered the meal and yet we could taste everything. Service was...great and staff was friendly. We were checked for our Covid QR code when we entered and it was a simple, no fuss process. I am immunocompromised and really appreciated that we could have an excellent meal in a safe environment. We would definitely come here again - without hesitation. We were here on Nov 21, 2021.More
We had lunch here on Wednesday. The food was tasty and presented beautifully. I had the pasta special; it had plenty bacon in the sauce and was served piping hot. I highly recommend this restaurant. Our server Trina was very good.
Four friends visiting for a few days of cottage time. We found 1886 on Tripadvisor and it was wonderful. We had a 1/2 hour wait outside, waiting for a table to become available. We were seated in a pleasant Covid divided dining room. We were...promptly attended to by our server Megan. Arguments quickly ensued over who had the best appetizer, one of a) venison sliders ( delicious and juicy), b) baked garlic or c) beef d’artois. Suffice to say that all were delicious. Mains brought pork cheeks (fork tender) over risotto, duck, fish (pickerel!) and chips, and the pasta of the day with mushrooms, peppers and garlic in a rose sauce. After much sharing we again could not agree on who ‘won’. All were expertly prepared and scrumptious. Desserts too were excellent. I have to acknowledge our terrific server Megan. She was knowledgeable, helpful and made us feel so comfortable. All in all we DID agree that this was the best restaurant meal that any of us had had in years. And to top it all off it was very reasonable. Just an excellent evening that we will remember. It is well worth the trip if you are within an hour’s drive.More
This is a lovely restaurant. We sat inside on a particularly hot day and it was lovely. We felt very comfortable and safe with the way it was set up (excellent social distancing) and the food was excellent. Lots of variety with vegetarian/vegan options. I...will definitely be back with my family.More
This will always be my go- to restaurant!! The food has never once disappointed. It is extremely well-made and high-end, yet it will not break the bank. Everything is always cooked to perfection. I have yet to have some thing I don’t like… Their drinks...are also probably the best in the north bay area, you literally can’t get a better cocktail. The atmosphere is also my favourite. Bistro lights on a warm summer night and they are always playing amazing music. If you’d like to try them for brunch they do also have a really good eggs Benedict. The absolute only thing that I wish they did, was reservations! But other than that 10/10More
We were looking to try something new while visiting our son in North Bay and this restaurant was a mere 15 minutes away! The menu looked intriguing so we phoned and a pleasant and upbeat voice greeted us. The person happily provided us with details...about protocols and the like, including when times would be busy as there are no reservations. We went a bit later as recommended at 7. The mussels special of the night was done in the french onion broth-excellent! I had the onion soup as well with just the right amount of cheese and onions. The wine in the broth gave the finishing touch. I had the cherry BBQ chicken on sourdough. The french onion soup was happily substituted for a nominal fee. Very pleased this could be done. My husband had the Nipissing Burger and fries. The blue cheese was smooth and the meal filling. Craft beer from New Ontario(Local) and a martini with pear and cranberry pie, topped off the night. We will definitely be back. The service from Jazz was excellent, orders are taken with consideration for allergies, plates whisked away when done. Served in a timely manner.More
