Totally non friendly, non welcoming, could not be bothered staff. We waited ages!! We were a group of 4, spending allot of money. Asked for water, which we never got and could not be bothered trying to ask for again. Entrees were only just average. Asked what the fish of the day came with, were told Chips and salad. But... A delightful cafe for a rest on your journey and to refresh your body and soul before and after walking up the river and mountain paths of Karangahake. The owner has taken old teak timbers from a railway bridge and spent the past two years creating over 200 hand carved panels which are set along the perimeter as a fence... More

But sadly let down by very surly and uninviting welcome which was a bit of a disappointment as the food looked really good. But of a shame as all it would have taken was a bit of eye contact a smile and a - be with you in a moment. We were 5 seconds away from walking out

We've been here several times in the past and really enjoyed the place. Could not believe the attitude of the staff this time. It was not busy but we waited and waited and waited at the counter to be served while someone cut cake on a bench beside the till and an older woman did something with the coffee machine... More

Enhances the magic of an already magical place. Good coffee with inspiring environment which is creatively decorated. Detailed wood carvings and a little shop for gifts for home

The lady (manager possibly) was really rude, and the food was absolutely overpriced. After we had our coffee and food for just several minutes, the lady even asked us to LEAVE the cafe, because some of us got "take away" food. Ridiculous. Never come back again!

Quaint cafe opposite start of Windows walk and railway bridge walk in gorge. So many tempting things to eat.

The Talisman Cafe is tucked into the trees directly across the main State Highway from the Karangahake Gorge historic goldfields carpark as the road enters the Gorge. It's a classic eclectic alternative lifestyle building that characterises so much of the Coromandel Peninsula. A bit rambling, tucked into the trees, comfy with lots of wood and brick-a-brac, with an open fire,... More

Popped in after a walk in the gorge. Food was fantastic, but 40 min wait and the staff were not overly friendly. Dogs not allowed in garden section, which is fine but our poor dog had a long wait in car.

We visited here on 9 Jan 2016 for morning coffee. Unfortunately we were put off eating by the number of fruit flies in the food cabinet. When we mentioned this the lady was not interested. When our coffee arrived it was very weak even though it was a double shot. It has put us off going again.
