Lovely little restaurant, the waitress was very nice and efficient, the chef was friendly Unfortunately we found the meals to be very expensive and also very small portions Our friend went to McDonald’s on his way home After an appetizer and dinner My husbands meal...looked like an appetizer I must say we were a bit disappointedMore

Excellent stop for lunch! Very well made & dressed burgers, the crab cake was excellent & imaginatively plated. The dessert crepes (butter tart , and lemon) -wow! Will be returning for a dinner

Chen Freddie is a great guy and really excellent chef. We recently had dinner there with another and each of us had different entree dishes . All were 5 star and we all raved about our dishes. We will be back frequently to this hidden...gem in Shelburne. Tony PringleMore

The atmosphere at Beyond the Gate reminded us bistros that we visited in Paris in the 1970’s. The decor is eclectic. The restaurant is small - every dish is creatively prepared by a real French chef. Well worth a detour to Shelburne.

Wow! We went to Beyond the Gate for brunch on a girls trip and it was absolutely amazing. What a cute restaurant that was totally unexpected. The flavours and selection were excellent. I have celiac disease and they offered me so many gluten free options....My friends and I also ended our brunch with wonderful crepes. An absolute must.More

A truly memorable experience. The staff were courteous and the head chef came to sit with us while he explained all the amazing cheeses. The quaint little street side patio was the perfect setting for one of the best meals ever! The antipasto and oysters...were perfect, the crepe and burger were flavoured perfect and the drinks flowed. Such a perfect dining experience from start to finish and I cannot wait to return.More

When we arrived to BTG, we were greeted by a lovely girl who seated us quickly and provided great service. What blew me away was the QUALITY of the food. WOW! Frederic Chartier is a BRILLIANT chef. Running a one-man kitchen, his wait staff is...polite, courteous and on the ball. He is a treat to meet and you will be blown away by his kindness, his generousity and his skill to do home cooking with finesse and flair. He is welcoming and personable! Fine dining at a VERY reasonable price! You will not be disappointed!! Frederic, merci pour une grande expérience, nous reviendrons! Expérience délicieuse!More

The restaurant is super charming and located in a totally unexpected location. The food is really excellent. We were on a little weekend getaway in the area and decided to treat ourselves to a dinner out. First restaurant we have been to in many months....French food is our favorite and this restaurant did not disappoint, it easily holds up to any French bistro in Toronto and probably in France. We had the Flammkuchen, Scallops St. Jacques and Miso Soy Infused Halibut. , all were excellent. We are not dessert people but we decided to split the sweet and salty crepe, it was heavenly, we literally inhaled it. The wine selection was also very good. Definitely worth giving this place a try although the restaurant is rather small so reservations might be a good idea.More

I have a large list of food allergies, and it’s the first time in 8 months that I can eat in a restaurant! The chef came out to talk about my restrictions and he prepared an AMAZING meal, dessert included! It was sooo good that...I came back the next day for brunch. I’m so thankful I know this place!More

Local friends invited us out-of-towners for a brunch raving about this place. It all was true. Small, compact, friendly yet verrry Franch, and so tasty in choices! Maybe it helps to have one in your party on personal terms with the chef, and it sure...made our experience a delightfully enjoyable one. I noted families, regulars and newbies alike were welcomed. Make it a habit with your loyalty and you might be discussing variation on future menu items with the chef. What could be more exciting and stand-your-ground unique in this rural setting. In your face Tranna!More

3R’s Club new review. For all of you our fun food club (Resto Rating Ring) is on the run again and voyaged to Shelburne to review Beyond the Gate Restaurant. The travel was well worth the drive. Its name, well describes how well hidden is...the emplacement. A small sign on the facade of a white wall announces its home and when one enters the correct door you will need to walk through a long hallway wondering if you took the right door back there. Reaching the final room offers you 7 different wood tables with an assortment of chairs with a smiling hostess that directs you to our table of 6 interested and somewhat wondering appetites. The open kitchen and the blackboard menus mounted on the wall are certainly tickling our curiosity. To somewhat ease our curiosity, the owner chef Frederic Chartier left his cooking creations to welcome us to his charming little abode. The chef is French and so are most of his creations from appetizers to 7 different crêpes, 2 specials for the day and 6 different deserts. Also a decent assortment of 8 white and red wines, all from France of course. (See attached pics).. From the gazpacho soup to all the different crepes which were served and the crepe suzette and crème brulee for deserts, all of them got a thumps up from all of us. This was an amazing food experience considering the limited facilities. The plating and some of the table service could be considered average but we ate extremely well. Thanks Frederic.More

Tucked away at the West end of Main St. Shelburne, ON is a french delight. Primarily a crepe restaurant but so much more. Freddie just keeps it coming. The crepes are fabulous. So many varieties with mains & dessert crepes. Everything on the menu is...delicious. We have dined here many times and always enjoyed it. The dining room is small & intimate and I would suggest a reservation for dinner or the Sunday brunch. Have your appetite ready. You will not go away hungry!More

Outstanding French cuisine thoughtfully prepared with outstanding taste in the back of an almost deserted downtown street. This quaint restaurant only has seating for 20 people. We stumbled upon this treasure. It will be a most memorable treat if you want to be impressed.
