We had strolled along well kept footpaths from Widford and although we were only looking for a welcome pint the pub was perfectly happy to supply bowls of chips for the youngsters in the midst of the lunchtime service The menu made us regret that our brief stay in the area meant we couldn't return to sample it The setting... Always enjoy dropping by here. The Swan has an easy going atmosphere and welcomes dogs and walkers either for a drink or meal. Food is invariably good.

We had an evening meal here and it was a buzzing little pub and friendly atmosphere. The menu is a bit limited on main courses but the starters had some good options. The one thing we both wanted I.e. the Venison ran out so we then had to reorder and with limited main courses and fancying red meat it was... More

Having had a superb dinner a couple of years ago at the Swan, I booked again as somewhere special for Valentine's night. Apart from a droopy red rose , there was little in the way of atmosphere. The meal itself was ok but with the wine at £7.50- £9.50 for a glass of rose we thought was on the high... More

A delicious lunch served by friendly and attentive staff in delightful surroundings. This is a special pub in a perfect setting which goes out of it's way to make it's clientele feel at home. The food is delicious and made from local fresh ingredients and therefore seasonal. The partridge breasts were particularly delicious and the traditional apple crumble made extra... More

I met up with a friend who treated me to Sunday Lunch for my Birthday. The staff were polite and attentive. We both enjoyed the delicious Potatoe and Leek soup with blue cheese. For Main we had the lamb and beef roasts respectively finishing off with Sticky Toffee Pudding and a Blackberry Creme Brulee. Everything was delicious and we'd definitely... More

We stayed with friends overnight and ate dinner and breakfast. As others have said the building and location are lovely. The interior is full of oak beams and flagstone floors. Plenty of history to view. Overall a pleasant place to be. The room we stayed in was clean and comfortable. Bath on the small side of not very big. Comfy... More

A former prime minister entertained a french president here and I think got him to drink la biere tiede. Formally owned by the Dowager Duchess of Devonshire who was brought up in the neighbourhood. Featured in Downtown Abbey. This is a lovely place to eat at a table beside large window overlooking the garden, or in the summer sitting out... More
