We stopped at this cafe for breakfast coffee and ended up leaving with a few great treats for later (muffin and chocolate macaroon - both tasty) . The cafe is on the Cabot Trail. Staff were helpful and insightful giving us recommendations about the Cabot Trail and restaurants we may want to go to later. Outdoor dining. Good combination of locals and tourists.

Stopped here randomly while driving. Grabbed a steak sandwich with fries and a smoked meat sandwich. The steak sandwich is more roast beef than steak but was delicious with great fries. The smoked meat was on great homemade hearty bread. Nice location with a view.

We ate at the Clucking Hen both days we stayed in Cape Breton, as our B&B did not have a breakfast. The bacon and eggs were great, and the cinnamon buns are delicious. The service was very friendly, and they were particularly helpful in informing us that the Cabot Trail was washed out and recommending Louisbourg as an alternate day trip. There are very few restaurant options north of Baddeck on the East Coast of Cape Breton. We would recommend the Clucking Hen for breakfast or lunch.

Had the most wonderful dinner tonight at the Clucking Hen. Dinner portions were large, home made and delicious. Our waiter, Jeff, was extremely attentive, friendly and interactive. Two of us had the Turkey club on homemade bread with crispy French fries ( only had room for 1/2 the sandwich and two had the Turkey dinner. Home made desserts followed -lemon meringue pie and red velvet cheese cake. The cafe overlooks the bay and has an option for eating outside on their porch. They serve all 3 meals - you won’t be disappointed ! It’s located right on the eastern part of the Cabot Trail

Stopped on the route for a take out lunch, it was quick. Took 2 lobster sandwich that were well done but very simple like you would do yourself at home. I think the bread was homemade because they make a lot of pastry too. Also took raisin butter tarts and pecan butter tarts : these were amazing and worth the stop !

This small, friendly, airy diner on the Cabot Trail had a limited (as in not overwhelming) lunch menu. My friends had their version of a lobster roll and some of their delicious desserts. I had the turkey club with dinner salad, which were delicious.

I stopped in need of a coffee and discovered a fantastic restaurant and bakery. There was a wonderful selection of beads, cookies, cakes & squares. It was hard to choose but bought chocolate chip cookies, brownies, butter tarts & a spiced ginger cake. Everything was delicious and the prices were very reasonable. I will definitely go back for more...

Was planning on another restaurant but passed it accidentally and decided to keep going. What a great mistake! The servers were wonderful, friendly, and well informed of the menu. Food was delicious. Fresh cut fries. Yummy porridge bread is a must if you order a sandwich. They were so kind to bring a dessert for a friend who was celebrating his birthday the day we visited and can I say….I think it was a brownie with icing. OH MY GOODNESS. So delicious. This place is a real gem, from the staff to the food.

We were on the Cabot Trail and this café/bakery was a great place to stop for a coffee and a sweet treat. We were amazed at how many customers there were, as it was already the end of the season. We treated ourselves to cinnamon rolls with our coffee, which tasted delicious. The other baked goods also looked delicious. We also really liked the opportunity to drink our coffee on the lawn next to the building with a view of the sea.

Best coffee on the Trail! Also fresh food and great service. It can get busy with takeout so it seems like if you sit down it’s almost as fast (staff can help advise you). The views are amazing and the local seafood and baked good selection is terrific.

Called at 6:40 and they were closing at 7:00 however, they stayed open for us. I had the burger; possibly the best burger I have ever had. My wife had the club sandwich and it was so big we could have fed a club; it was delicious. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Can’t rate it highly enough.

Seen this unique restaurant on our way through the Cabot trail yesterday, We stopped and purchased lunch, hot beverages and grilled cheese and bacon sandwich. Ordered take out. I had to wait, no problem until droves of people continued to fill the restaurant. People who came in after us, were being served their meal. So after waiting a lengthy time period I inquired about our food. Now a lovely young lady waited on me, took my money and this was the other young fellow behind the counter. He said he would check, came back from the kitchen and stated that I would have to continue to wait as "they did not prioritize take out" Unacceptable, no where does it state that take out is not prioritized. Sandwich was then quickly thrown together and was not great, Maybe a 2 out of 10. Definitely will never stop here again.

Highly recommend not only the restaurant, but the baked goods as well. Our food was wonderful. We had fish and chips and several items from the bakery. The best part was the homemade tartar sauce to go with the fish and chips. The second best thing was the friendly kind service, which came with recommendations of things to do in the area. This place is very much a five star restaurant with a beautiful view and casual comfortable seating Indoor or outdoor by the way, weather permitting. This is probably one of my top five restaurants in all my travels, and I travel a lot. The fish and chips photo below was taken after we had eaten almost every bite so not the best picture and we failed to take a picture of the beautiful baked goods very sorry please go. You will not be disappointed

I joined some friends for a last-minute breakfast at the Clucking Hen and really enjoyed it except for one thing: my friend had a gift card and it seemed like an overly complicated affair to use it! I'm not sure the reason behind but I'm sure there's one. Other than that, the service was great, the food came quick and it was as it should be and was delicious. The atmosphere of the place is quite pleasant as well with nice views. I will definitely grab breakfast here again when passing through the area on the way to the Highlands!
