Our walking group made our way to The Star inn walking from Pontypool basis along the Canal. The landlady lit a lovely open fire for us as she had just opened at noon.we had great real pub food and a fantastic choice of real ales. We have visited the Star on a few occasions and will continue to do so.

We went to The Star Inn with some friends. It was our first visit and it certainly won't be our last. The food was amazing, well cooked and hot. The boy who served us was so friendly and helpful. Have already booked with family for a meal before Christmas.

Good friendly no nonsense local. Warm inviting pub with a good range of ales. Good food at reasonable prices and attentive staff. Log fire and dog friendly. All a pub should be.

We visited last Sunday and booked last minute for a group of us and we had a very good lunch, the staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. There were generous portions of food at a very reasonable price, will go back again. One of the children eating with us said the chocolate pudding was the best thing ever!

We found the Star Inn by chance, while on a week visit to Wales from the U.S. We had the English roast beef with Yorkshire pudding Sunday dinner and it was the best we had all week. The atmosphere was very friendly with locals we enjoyed talking to. We don't visit a country to just see tourist like us, we... More

Nice country pub with a massive menu that caters for everyone was spoiled for choice, biggest menu I have seen in a place like this. All the meals were home cooked and enjoyed took a while to come out but worth the wait. The mixed grill was a feast fit for a king! Garden looked decent but a bit cold... More

Where to begin?,,,,,,, first of all the bench seating outside are all bunched together on a tiny patch of muddy grass all in close quarters of each other, then on entering you are greeted with a multitude of turning heads and stares as if to say " who's this stranger in OUR pub"? From groups of local CLICKY guys thinking... More

Food served 6pm onwards. Quite lively seems to have a lot of regulars at the bar on a Friday but pubs nowadays need to cater for all or face either going out of business or getting bought out by the big pubs and get the McDonald's syndrome. Good food, especially for pub food one of the best I've eaten in... More

We were doing a canal walk (a few minutes walk from pub)and parked at the pub and came back just before 6pm (the time evening meals start). We sat in the garden and enjoyed our meal which was much better than average pub food - the fish and chips the home-made chilli are recommended. Would definitely eat/drink here again when... More

Description
WE ARE A FAMILY RUN, CHILD AND DOG FRIENDLY COUNTRY PUB. We offer choice of 4 real ales, a smooth ale, 4 lagers (2 premium) and 3 ciders on tap with a good variety of bottled ciders, soft drinks and alcohol free lager. Our food dose not claim to win prizes, but its good quality, good portion size, and freshly cooked (and it won't break the bank) so some times a small wait is inevitable but hopefully worth it. The atmosphere is warm welcoming and cosy with a wood burner one end and an open fire the other which we light when its miserable and cold outside which is most of the year. The pub is open from 12 noon every day all day, and closes around 10pm in the week, then around 12pm weekends. Sunday and Monday we serve food 12pm till-3pm ONLY (no evening meals) Every other day its 12pm till 2pm then 6pm till 8.30pm looking forward to seeing you Soon
