We enjoyed a hearty meal in this characterful old hotel. Portions were generous. We thought the taste was not always as interesting as it could be. Ingredients listed on the menu did not seem to be discernible in the dishes.

In the summer you cannot beat the stunning garden with amazing views over the town. Lovely place to have a leisurly lunch. Inside is very traditional and the cooking reflects this. Good Sunday lunch and evening meals. Lots of nooks and crannies to eat in....More

Bishops Castle is a nice place to stay with several pubs and places to eat. I have eaten at three of the pubs, and used three of the takeaway restaurants. Despite the title of the review I have eaten here twice due to the lovely...More

Lovely menu selection-choice of bar or the beautifully panelled dining room. Great to have the local weather forecast and suggested walk with the breakfast menu.

Had evening meal in the oak panelled dining room which is tiny with a great antique feel. Steak was done as requested, and was good although not exceptional. Moussaka was tasty but not terribly authentic as mainly tasted of cheese. It came with a greek...More

Good menu with well cooked food. Only moan - why charge an extra £3 for a big bowl of veg. Just include a regular amount with the meal. Common practice though so we won't hold it against you.

Love this hotel, it’s local so we go to eat or for a drink. The inside is magnificent & the gardens superb. Particularly love the fish nights & cream teas!

Arrived in the afternoon. Only cream teas available. Had soft drinks. Took a while for staff to appear. Bishops Castle is a quaint town and well worth a visit. Parking alongside Hotel. Not sure about public transport.

Description
If you want to eat out in Bishops Castle look no further - Shropshire has a long history of culinary excellence. Shrewsbury has a plethora of good restaurants, and Ludlow is just down the road, which for a time boasted more Michelin starred restaurants than London itself! We don‘t do Michelin at The Castle, but we certainly use many of the same local suppliers. We’re spoilt for them actually. What we aim to produce is modern, good pub food that is healthy, hearty, flavoursome & fresh at great value of course. And you’ve a wide choice of places to eat at The Castle. Each of the three bars has its own individual character, some with open fires, some with terraces out into the garden. Or try our oak panelled restaurant, believed to feature in the Mary Webb novel “The House in Dormer Forest”. And when the weather is warm, & remember it’s always sunny in Shropshire, our south facing gardens with terrace & raised fish ponds provide the perfect spot for a light repast and a cooling beverage.
