Had another great meal at this restaurant. Nothing is too much trouble and the food is consistently good. We had a family meal to celebrate my birthday and once again they catered to my food intolerances brilliantly, even presenting me with a gluten and diary...More

I am VERY well travelled in my role as UK sales manager, but I have to say I stayed for 1 night on the 27th of June 2018 and was blown away with the quality of food served. This really is verging on Michelin quality,...More

Overall the pub and hotel look really picturesque. Good choice of bar and restaurant food. For the business people the WiFi doesn’t work in the rooms which is a shame. Breakfast is extra at £7.50 and only after 8:30am which is too late for us...More

We had a great meal at The Mermaid, food is contemporary & creative with a definite Asian influence, certainly more gourmet then we’d anticipated. Alongside the a la carte offer there’s a 6 course tasting menu priced at £95 for 2. Lots of inspired tapas...More

This place came highly recommended by my colleagues. I figured good pub food and was pleasantly surprised by the gourmet delights I was presented with. The food was beyond wonderful, the service was exceptional, and the prices for the quality more than reasonable. I will...More

When we arrived at the Mermaid we were surprised to find that they were currently experiencing a power cut. This meant that the staff were understandably quite stressed, but we were offered drinks and chose to sit outside and enjoy the weather. The staff were...More

We spent about £50 a head and had three courses and wine. Worth spending a bit more for the experience. Good food and service !

17Th Century village pub in the village of Ellington, five minutes from the junction of the A14 and the A1, where Nick Marriott is creating food with new, exciting flavours, whilst also retaining some of the best traditional favourites. The pub was refurbished in 2014, the first task was to bead-blast the old ships timbers throughout the public bar and the restaurant. Gone are the layers of black paint to reveal wonderful 400 year old oak beams, now oiled to bring out the grain in the wood. Gone are the old carpets - tiles from the Middle East laid to produce a clean, sharp finish. The floor in the bar area has been cleaned to reveal the original 400 year old tiles. Two log burners, one in the bar area, and one in the restaurant, contribute to the welcoming atmosphere. The whole bar and restaurant has been decorated sympathetically in shades of cream and terracotta, which coordinate beautifully with half oak panelling in the bar area. The modern, energy efficient, kitchen has been designed by Nick, and installed from scratch. This is the area where the magic begins! Nick worked towards opening his own pub/restaurant for the past 12 years, starting as "Head Chef" in a Cheltenham Bistro and working his way up at The Plough Bolnhust, The Grove Chandlers Cross London, and latterly as Sous Chef at Bedfordshire's only Michelin Star restaurant, Paris House in Woburn. Nick explains "My passion is preparing food to be visually exciting, whilst enhancing natural flavours with imaginative combinations of spices and herbs". We hope you will enjoy the fruits of his labour.
