We stopped for lunch at this busy restaurant on the 26 of December, the a la carte menu was not available and therefore they presented us a set menu with simple dishes and a very limited choice (three pasta and three meats dishes as main courses and two side dishes consisting of french fries or salad). The food was of... More

May be it was because of the December period, but I would not feel like going back. Pasta was too rich (fat) and house wine tasted like red grape juice. Unfortunately. May be better at lunch-time.

La Scala is directly entered from the huge staircase that is Caltagirone's main attraction. We figured it would be a tourist trap, but we were wrong. The homemade pastas were excellent, especially the Sicilian pestos (these feature pistachios, wild fennel, and whatever the restaurant offers). Pleasant atmosphere in midafternoon.

Very close to the Staircase, frequented by locals which is always a good sign. Lovely food, atmosphere and wine

We had a great dinner here after walking around in Caltagirone. Food was superb and the wines that came with it were excellent. Highly recommended!

We stayed in Caltagirone for 9 days and came twice here for pizza, on the first night tired from a long drive, on recommendation of our host. The entrance situation does not inspire confidence, the main restaurant room is not the most cosy you have ever eaten in (these two points resulting in giving 4, not 5 points). Indeed, on... More

We arrived in Caltagirone very late . This small town is very famous for the beautiful and fine ceramics, that are real art work. The town is full of shops selling beautiful pieces of pottery, but unfortunately we arrived too late and all the shops were already closed. So rather disappointed we decided to go to have dinner. A bar... More

Getting pizza for lunch in Sicily isn't as easy as you'd think. Most restaurants only serve it for dinner, which was frustrating to the teenager of our party. So when we saw the "pizza" sign on the famous Caltagirone stairs, we made sure they really did serve pizza for lunch and then made plans to stop there after our ceramics... More

Found at the very foot of Caltagirone's famous staircase, you'd probably expect the restaurant named in La Scala's honour to be something of a tourist trap. In fact, we were reluctant to dine here for that very reason. But on the first Sunday evening in September we found that many of the town's more renowned restaurants closed. So La Scala... More
