Great place to enjoy a nice hot meal. A wide variety of foods to choose from, but our family favorite is the halibut of course!

We purposely waited to post this review thinking our feelings would subside. It's time! Pros - Fabulous attention from our server. Very polite and dignified. Cons - Skimpy / stingy halibut and haddock portions. Sends a loud and clear message that they were likely cut...in half prior to breading and frying. Small plates will always give the impression of a larger meal. The halibut is listed as 'Market Priced'. Arrogant considering the interior decor is dated, gloomy and just plain sad. Depending on where on the makeshift patio guests are seated, they can anticipate facing dreary outbuildings and the parking lot. On exit, we agreed that it was a very disappointing experience. On recollection, our history with Just for the Halibut goes back almost 20 years. The deterioration has been gradual and sustained. We won't be back.More

When we arrived, about 4:30, we were greeted by a not so hospitable greeter. She asked if we had a reservation, in a manner that made me feel as we were imposing on her and the other servers, that were seated at the table next...to the entrance. She checked her schedule for possible availibility, I am guessing. I looked into the seating area and only seen one table occupied and wondered what the issue was, unless they had a big crowd coming in soon. By the time we left I think there were 3 other tables of people that came in. We were given a "small" table next to the fireplace. We ordered our meal, I had the parmasen dill whitefish and my wife the cup of soup, cream of asparagus with salmon on a bun. My meal had grilled fresh veggies, that were great, small portion of coleslaw and fries. The whitefish fillet was small and broken into a few small pieces, l have seen larger perch fillets. The sauce on the fish had a good flavor and plenty of it. My wife's meal started with her cup of "lumpy" cream of asparagus soup with very little flavor of asparagus. The salmon on the bun had a small portion of grilled salmon, not what you would expect for the price. In closing, I think for the meal we had at this restaurant the price was too high and the quality of the food was fair to good but not the best and the portions were smal for the price. We paid over $75 for the two meals and two beer, then add on the tip and it was well over $85. I am surprised to see this restaurant as number one in Bobcaygeon on TripAdvisor. I have used this site for many of my decisions when traveling and even for local information and I am disappointed in the site this time.More

The food was very good, price was good as well. However our Server Sara was likely the best server we've ever had, she was funny, prompt, very engaging. She absolutely made the experience

We had a late lunch here today (06 July 2023) and both of us ordered the halibut with chips and it was Devine! Melt in your mouth batter was light and tasty. Fish was fresh and perfectly cooked. Fries were so good too! I ordered...gravy on the side but ended up pouring it over the fries. So yummy! It’s an older restaurant so decor is older but it’s a cozy feeling like you’re visiting an old friend. Service was friendly and fast. Highly recommend!More

What an awesome dinner! Three of us were at JFTH last night and had the baked shrimp, battered pickles, and escargot for appetizers. All three were amazing and it was the best escargot that I’ve had anywhere. For dinner we had halibut and fries, halibut...and sweet potato fries, and halibut with caesar salad. Again outstanding. The fries were hot and crispy and the halibut was cooked perfectly and they had malt vinegar for the fish. Our server was friendly, attentive, and the food came out quickly. Just an overall at home feel and made for a memorable night. ThanksMore

This was my first time visiting Bobcaygeon and eating at Just for the Halibut. I had the two piece Halibut dinner and my spouse had the Haddock. Without a doubt, best fish & chips I have ever tasted! The coleslaw was amazing, so fresh and...yummy! I look forward to returning next fall again!More

We first went for dinner with a group of adults and children and sat on the patio. Our server could not have been nicer or more attentive. Everyone had fish and chips (delicious) except one who ordered mussels. She said they were some of the...best she has ever tasted. Overall , an excellent experience. So good, that we returned a couple of weeks later with a different group of adults and children. Unfortunately, the patio was closed because of rain but we were seated inside quickly and the children were given colouring sheets and crayons to keep them busy. It was quite loud inside because it was crowded but our group was pretty loud too. Again the food and service were top notch. We will be returning again soon.More

We first went to another restaurant and it was so hot without A/C we left. Asked a local who recommended this as an alternative. We were a party of 4, they seated us immediately. Service was super, food was great with generous portions.

Very nice restaurant in Bobcaygeon, Ontario. Lots of variety in the menu, i.e. not just fish. We had the halibut and chips which was great. Also a local Irish ale and Ontario wine. Good service and lots of room in the attached little areas of...tables and chairs. Would recommend this establishment for dinner in Bobcaygeon.More
