We had a late lunch here today (06 July 2023) and both of us ordered the halibut with chips and it was Devine! Melt in your mouth batter was light and tasty. Fish was fresh and perfectly cooked. Fries were so good too! I ordered gravy on the side but ended up pouring it over the fries. So yummy! It’s an older restaurant so decor is older but it’s a cozy feeling like you’re visiting an old friend. Service was friendly and fast. Highly recommend!

What an awesome dinner! Three of us were at JFTH last night and had the baked shrimp, battered pickles, and escargot for appetizers. All three were amazing and it was the best escargot that I’ve had anywhere. For dinner we had halibut and fries, halibut and sweet potato fries, and halibut with caesar salad. Again outstanding. The fries were hot and crispy and the halibut was cooked perfectly and they had malt vinegar for the fish. Our server was friendly, attentive, and the food came out quickly. Just an overall at home feel and made for a memorable night. Thanks

We first went for dinner with a group of adults and children and sat on the patio. Our server could not have been nicer or more attentive. Everyone had fish and chips (delicious) except one who ordered mussels. She said they were some of the best she has ever tasted. Overall , an excellent experience. So good, that we returned a couple of weeks later with a different group of adults and children. Unfortunately, the patio was closed because of rain but we were seated inside quickly and the children were given colouring sheets and crayons to keep them busy. It was quite loud inside because it was crowded but our group was pretty loud too. Again the food and service were top notch. We will be returning again soon.

We purposely waited to post this review thinking our feelings would subside. It's time!
Pros -
Fabulous attention from our server. Very polite and dignified.
Cons -
Skimpy / stingy halibut and haddock portions. Sends a loud and clear message that they were likely cut in half prior to breading and frying. Small plates will always give the impression of a larger meal. The halibut is listed as 'Market Priced'. Arrogant considering the interior decor is dated, gloomy and just plain sad.
Depending on where on the makeshift patio guests are seated, they can anticipate facing dreary outbuildings and the parking lot.
On exit, we agreed that it was a very disappointing experience.
On recollection, our history with Just for the Halibut goes back almost 20 years. The deterioration has been gradual and sustained. We won't be back.

Halibut is the best tasting fish for me. And I’ve been to many seafood restaurants that serve halibut. But none compare to the halibut that comes from here. Their batter makes every other seafood place taste bland. Every new restaurant I go to and order halibut never gets above 2nd place. Can’t wait to go back! Great staff to go along with awesome food.

Firstly, my wife and I are East coasters and grew up on fresh fish. I have struggled on Ontario to find great seafood that mimics that “just out of the water” taste. Well this did it! The halibut and Cajun cod we ordered were delicious, hot, flaky and beautifully dressed. The halibut was pan fried in garlic butter and was delicious. Cod was awesome as well. A family restaurant with a history of its owners adorning the walls shows pride in the craft exhibited here. The service staff were incredible and kudos to Tori who is a gem of a human! The servers were proud to speak of the family, the history and how many of the family now work in the establishment. They were closing the restaurant the next day for a staff wedding - need I say more! Highly recommend.

My wife and I and another couple were in Bobcaygeon this weekend and wanted to find a decent place for dinner. We looked online and decided to try Just for the Halibut. Soooo glad we did. We all ordered something different and all four dishes were topnotch. I started off with an appetizer of shrimp and crab cakes which I loved, followed by an entree of a butterflied chicken breast and huge shrimps covered in a very tasty sauce with rice and veggies. The place was quite busy and I can certainly understand why. Our server Mary was a pure delight and added to us having a fabulous dinner. We will certainly be back next time through Bobcaygeon.

While in town we decided to stop here for lunch. They had a large/extended patio out back. Even better was most of it was covered. There was a mix of tables/chairs and picnic tables.
We were quickly looked after by Tara and she was friendly and prompt with everything.
Both of us had the halibut, with fries/onion rings. The halibut was light and flakey and not overly battered. The onion rings were perfect had a great crunch to it. I personally found the fries just alright, but the gravy was nice and rich.
We would have had a desert but we were full, and had just bought a load of baked goods elsewhere. They have an extensive menu and look forward to going back

We checked before going what time the restaurant was open. We invited friends to join us as our guests. From the moment we got through the door the server was so fast. She came to the table repeatedly before we could check the menu or greet our guests. This was our first time there so needed time to orient ourselves. Once we ordered our drinks and food we were rushed through the meal faster than any place ever! We were in and out in less than an hour. And followed out the door by staff who locked up. This was half hour before it was to close. That is why I chose the title of the review.

Sara you made the stop so much fun. Thanks for great service with a smile. We sat on the patio and the food was great. Haddock and Halibut were done perfectly. Served hot and great size portion. Beers on tap fresh and cold. Hats off to kitchen. Will stop again next time through town

Several folks recommended we eat here. We did, and it did not disappoint. The restaurant itself is a little dated, but don't let that fool you. The service was amazing. The food was excellent. The prices were very reasonable. Get the he halibut and fries!

Lucky enough that my travels took me thru Bobcaygeon today. Can’t leave without a meal from Just For The Halibut. Return patron more than once and will continue to be. Consistent and professional in every aspect. Fish chowder and 1 piece of halibut for lunch. Any more than that for me would require a nap after. Excellent once again. Don’t pass by. Alexis was the perfect ambassador. No surprise at all. Cheers

Enjoyed a local brewery Old Dog, IPA , Airedale beer!

This was my first time visiting Bobcaygeon and eating at Just for the Halibut. I had the two piece Halibut dinner and my spouse had the Haddock. Without a doubt, best fish & chips I have ever tasted! The coleslaw was amazing, so fresh and yummy! I look forward to returning next fall again!
