A very busy, lively pub. The festival was enjoyable despite wet weather and you are given the choice of glass (for a deposit) or plastic. A good range of beers and cider on offer. We were all entertained by a man balancing heer on his head. Seating is limited and only a few of the chairs are comfy ones. The... More

We stayed for one night. Around every bend of the hotel lurkes another historic detail to be uncovered and investigated. The place is old itself, and fortunately some of the old relics are on display. Room was good and spacious. Bathroom likewise. Room had only a window to a construction site. Luckily we were not there to look out the... More

A nicely decorated pub with good atmosphere offering well-cooked, if a little standard pub food. Good helpings. Good if you're just looking for a good value, reliable pub meal.

We were heading back to Buxton from Stanage Edge and in need of refreshment and a snack. Having run along the edge energy levels were a tad low and pickled egg, pork scratchings and a pint were the obvious solution. Service was excellent, the beer and snack were great and the fire was lovely and warm. We started chatting to... More

Frightening how fast time goes. Two years since our last visit. A very warm welcome on a similarly cold February Saturday lunchtime. I had the pea & ham soup which was absolutely delicious and we both had scampi and chips - a great and delicious meal. Again we shared a coke and the bill was £24.70, which when all things... More

A truly lovely old pub with bags of character and a range of tasty treats on the menu. My recent visit with my family saw all of us partaking in the Beef sandwiches on the menu (which we had seen someone else eating on the next table) and not a crumb remained after a very short space of time! The... More
