We discovered that this winery had a weekly Thursday night music event and boy were we glad we did! You could bring your own munchies or buy from the local food truck (the sandwich man-great !), or order a charcuterie board from the cafe-we did...both and were very happy we did . The accompanying white wine was crisp and tasty . The music by Alicia Toner was terrific! What a fantastic find!!More

I have reviewed this establishment before, giving it 5 of 5. In June we had out of country guests and phoned for a reservation but the answering machine said the in box was full and I could not leave any message. Later I phoned again...and the owner said it was a cell phone and he was away from the restaurant and asked me to call back later which I did at which time he accepted our reservations. When we arrived the place was closed. Later i again phoned and the owner said I had made reservations for a day they routinely closed. Last Friday 4 of us travelled to Longview for dinner and arrived at HayWire at 6 p.m. for dinner but the owner told us they were closed. No explanation. Local residents have told me that one never knows if the place will be open or not and they have stopped trying. Just saying. Do not count on travelling to this place and expect it will be open.More

We were traveling along the Cowboy Trail and saw this restaurant as we drove through Longview. Very friendly waiter greeted us and we both had the fish and chips which were very tasty. Worth stopping if you are driving through this part of southern Alberta.

We ordered fish and chips. The chips we're great. The fish was so so - kinda tastless. I might try again just to be sure. Maybe it was an off day.

We have been to every other place to dine in Longview and finally went to Haywire as a result of encouragement from out neighbour. We now have a go to place. It is the food that does it. The presentation of the steak and vegetables...(in lieu of potato) combined with the variety and preparation was truly world class. In Longview! You will meet Joe, the owner, the chef and a personality. An abundance of art and western collectibles with old western movies (on mute). But go for the food. Joe cares and takes pride in what he serves.More

My wife and I stopped by the Hay Wire on the way back from Whitefish. Looking for a quaint local eatery with good food - we found it! The place is very cosy with lots of paintings on the wall, many painted by the owner/chef....The 2 meals we ordered were very good - fish and chips (red snapper) and a steelhead trout fillet on a bun. Lots of food, good quality, tasty, and well cooked. We will be back. The Hay Wire is a little jewel in Longview. Worth a stop next time you are driving through.More

The Haywire Cafe & Grill House is another interesting and unique stop while travelling along the Cowboy Trail. They have a pub-like menu with regular and craft beers as well as sodas to drink and the prices are pretty reasonable. They have a rustic outdoorsy...decor on the inside and an interesting bike sculpture on the outside that looks kind of like a motorcycle made by John Deere - very unique.More

Walking into an eclectic collection of antiques and artwork with the added delight of a totem pole it is not what one expects but the atmosphere is captivating. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The food was excellent. Try the pumpkin soup if you are...a soup lover. The best I've ever had. It's the owner/chef's own recipe. One friend I was with had the fish and chips and the other the salmon burger and both were very pleased with their selections. Definitely worth the drive from Calgary on a lazy afternoon. Highly recommend giving it a try.More

We liked the look of the place so we stopped in for a late lunch. There were only a few other people there. Service was slow but we were not in a rush. The wait gave us lots of time to look at the paintings...on the wall and the tiny art gallery next door. Food was very good but I did think it was strange that the recommended item was fish and chips when we were in the middle of cattle country. Go ahead and enjoy them. It was an expensive stop for us but that was because we bought two paintings right off the wall. The owner, Joey Bishop, is also an artist and does a wonderful job of capturing the scenery. We enjoyed our discussion with him. His style is very reminiscent of the Group of Seven. A simple lunch turned out to be a cultural experience. This was a highlight of our trip to Alberta. The paintings are now hung on our home in Ontario as a reminder of a truly lovely place to visit.More
