Probably one of the best lunches I have ever had. The Prawn Shack was superb. The food was delicious, staff were friendly, the vibe is chilled and there's ocean and forest views. The price is a bargain for whats on offer. The road isn't paved all the way to the Shack however most cars will manage.

Very difficult to find. Poor directional signage. Please improve the signage. The food is good and thanks. The staff is disorganised but I think they are inadequately trained. The processes from ordering to eating is incomprehensible - you can miss a dish by just blinking and you need to climb downstairs to order a drink. They can't sell wine by... More

The area is situated in the bush away from civilisation, set in the rural area of the North coast. This is a rustic wooden establishment set on sand dunes close to the Amatikulu River. On arrival one is treated with an R & R welcome drink. The food is tasty and wholesome. It has a casual atmosphere and therefore casual dress... More

This is a wonderfully quirky wooden establishment set on sand dunes close to the Amatikulu River. The food is delivered at intervals over about three hours and it is perfect for relaxed family groups. The food is tasty and wholesome. Don't go there is sand and wooden structures worry you - go there is you like something different.

Not much too say really other than it was closed.....very closed. In fact when we arrived we were not the only people standing around trying to make sure we were actually in the correct place. Another 2 groups of people, stood around with just as much amazement as us. How can a place like this be closed during a busy... More

It’s a great pity we missed you at the Prawn Shak but I must stress that we work on a strictly bookings only policy. Being in the middle of nowhere is wonderful but the logistics are a little different to a city restaurant. We can cater for up to 200 people on occasion and the Food for our 7 course... More

We really enjoyed ourselves here, it was a bit like being in Mocambique without having to drive miles away and get stressed at customs etc. The food was tasty and interesting, not a big wine selection but we didn't mind, only thing is take your own glasses as they serve drinks in tin mugs! Great idea to walk to the... More

Called to make a reservation, and was told that 2:30 would be fine but they do close at 5. Really hideous surroundings but made our way to the Prawn Shak. Very friendly host welcomed us and then forgot about us while w waited for a table. Eventually shown upstairs and the meal as explained. Caprese salad, literally slivers of cheese... More

It’s a great pity you didn’t get to experience the Shak properly and it seems you didn’t get the full treatment as that’s not how it normally operates. By way of explanation it REALLY is a SHACK! That’s what it’s about and it’s been popular for 13 years and the menu is tried and tested. Whilst we can try and... More

Underwhelmed! We must have had the travel package because we were picked up at work in Durban and taken to the Shak. This was no party bus - two local Taxis with all the trimmings. Broken seats, needed a push start, late to pick us up and "haikona kuluma (dont speak) English." Trip took 2 hours - 110 kms. 60... More

We decided to use the Prawn Shak as the venue for our office Christmas party this year, and after reading a few of the tripadvisor reviews we all had a few concerns. These vanished immediately upon arrival, we were greeted by the incredibly friendly staff and given out first drinks for the evening and showed to our table. There is... More

The Prawn Shak is rustic, very rustic, but don’t let this put you off. The food is great and the cocktails go down clapping hands. Seven courses are served buffet style over the course of the afternoon starting from noon until about 5 pm. The bar stays open as long as the party keeps going. The Prawn bisque is to... More
