Jacques Waterfront Dining
Review
About
Travellers' Choice
2024
Jacques Waterfront Dining is one of St. Lucia’s most popular restaurants, with a long-standing reputation for consistency in both the quality of the food and the service with which it is delivered. We recently re-opened in a new and exciting waterfront location in the heart of Rodney Bay. This intimate and elegant restaurant right on the edge of the marina is set within the beautiful gardens of Harmony Suites Hotel, with superb uninterrupted views of the marina and hills beyond. Find us just off the main street in Rodney Bay, first right after the East Caribbean Village condo complex. Chef Jacques is well travelled, having worked in Africa, the Middle East and Far East, and enjoys bringing his various culinary experiences into his cuisine. When asked about his style of cuisine he likes to talk of fusion. French and Caribbean cuisines are melded using his French cooking experience and the wonderful Caribbean flavours that are available to him on a daily basis. Last orders 9pm.

Jacques is situated in a wonderful waterfront location on the island of St. Lucia. The staff are friendly and attentive, bringing their Lucian sense of humour and gentle engagement to a roomy and comfortable environment. And what of the fare? The food is astonishing. The French culinary techniques blend with local ingredients to provide plates that create complex and interesting taste profiles. We had scallops in a cream sauce with layers of flavour that we are still talking about. Our mains were beautifully plated and presented in an approachable style - serving both foodies and casual diners. The wine list was broad including a selection that would satisfy most palates. Prices are reasonable, comparable to restaurants in London, Paris and New York. What an amazing dining experience.

This is a top restaurant in a great location especially if you are in or close to Rodney Bay. The moment you arrive you can tell you are somewhere special as the staff are very friendly and the building itself exudes class. The menu has plenty of choice on offer and although this is fairly expensive I would suggest it is worth every dollar

We booked this restaurant for our 10th Wedding Anniversary.
The location is fantastic and the atmosphere is wonderful.
The staff were very polite and made our visit special. Ali who is the maitre'd, was excellent.
I had salmon for starters which was very nice and fresh. But the main was beautiful. I've eaten many steaks, but this was the best I've ever eaten. It was cooked to perfection, and even though peppercorn sauce is not my favourite. I enjoyed it here.
I'm not a dessert person so can't comment on that.
The cost of the meal was around ÂŁ170 for two, with a bottle of pinot grigio, and I had a glass of Admiral Rodney rum to finish, and my wife had a coffee and dessert.
A 10 per cent service charge was included. The menu offered good variety without being extensive and there was something for everyone.
I thoroughly enjoyed our meal here, and would recommend for any one looking to celebrate an occasion whilst here to visit Jacques if you can spare the expense.

The food was wonderful but the service was terrible. The restaurant was not busy, we arrived for our reservation at 7:30 and left after dinner at 10:00. 2-1/2 hours is unacceptable for 2 people for dinner. We waited 15 minutes after being seated for waitstaff to take a drink order and waited longer for the cocktails to arrive. My simple gin martini was made incorrectly and my wife's Cosmopolitan was mostly orange juice; both went back. The Coquille St.Jacques appetizer took forever and instead of the appetizer portion we ordered, a full dinner size was delivered, for which we were charged, not the appetizer portion we ordered. We had to get up and summon the waitstaff to place our dinner order, which again took an inordinate amount of time. After dinner we again went to find waitstaff to clear the table of dirty dishes and take an order for two after dinner drinks. Twenty minutes after the order was placed with no results, I went to the manager to complain. I passed the bar area where I noticed 3 bartenders, no patrons, just standing around and chatting. I also noticed there were very few tables with diners remaining. The manager gave the usual excuses about being understaffed, the kitchen backed up, the drink orders complicated (a shot of rum is not complicated) etc. This is clearly not the #1 restaurant on the island and I can't understand that #1 rating. Will I go back, Never. Will I recommend this eatery to my friends, Never. Save your money and go elsewhere. We have been to St.Lucia several times and this was our worst dining experience ever. Stay away.

Had table booked to 20;00, when we arrived mam boss (MB) told us that we have to wait for 10-15 min, 20:15 MB said that it takes additionally 10-15 min, then 20:30 MB said that a table was ready but not in waterfront as booked, we refused (after that we did not see MB anymore) then 20:45 our booked table was ready.
When ordered we asked what catch of the day was, waitress explained that the fish was like a small dophin, thats it.
Had mussels for starter and tuna for main both was okay.
Wife had beef fillet for main and no good texture and quite plain taste.
For dessert I had creme brulee witch was very good but wifes cheese cake taste like a spunge.
When received the bill there was no compensation for the 45 min delay watsoever (normally in this cicumstantions a drink on the house or free dessert i.e) instead there was a service charge for over 47 EC !!
Everybody can make a misstake and doubble book but say that directly and not extend by 15 min again and again.
For the record our drinks waiter was very nice and gentle.
Finally mens restroom was quite teared and not that clean.

Thank you for taking the time to review Jacques. This is Cathy, owner and manager of the restaurant. I apologise if you felt that I didn’t give you due care and attention, it certainly wouldn’t have been my intention, our customers are very important to us, and we try our very best to get things right. However, sometimes events take over and I may well have been tied up at the reception and cash desk for most of the evening, I’m sorry that I didn’t get back to check on you personally. We do take second-sitting reservations and even though we try to leave a 15 minute space between reservations, sometimes due to circumstances there can be an overlap. Usually, guests are happy to take a seat in our lounge, order and drink and peruse the menu. We certainly try to avoid guests waiting longer than 15 minutes. Please note that we do not confirm waterfront tables. We only have 10 of these and although everybody wants to sit at the waterfront, it simply isn’t possible. These tables are sometimes booked up 3 or 4 days in advance, and they are allocated by our system on a first-come first reserved basis. You would not have been promised a waterfront table. We prepared an upper-level table for you, these tables have a view of the water and benefit from the breeze. It was your perogative to choose to wait for the next waterfront table to become available. Moving on to your concerns about the food. Mahi Mahi is locally known as Dorado and very occasionally Dolphin Fish. We avoid the use of the term Dolphin Fish, because as you can imagine it causes consternation with our guests who immediately think of the porpoise. Please be assured we would NEVER serve Dolphin the porpoise even if it was available, which it isn’t in St Lucia. We serve the American style baked cheesecake which is firm, not to be confused with the European style cheese cake which is whipped cream cheese dessert on a biscuit base. Finally, we are aware that the men’s bathroom is due an upgrade, which we are hoping will take place at the end of the high season, please rest assured that the bathrooms are cleaned on a daily basis.

Locations is very beautiful they do make reservations and it is recommended.
Services was good they have a lot of staff who are friendly locals and professional, if they want the next level service then the staff need to make recommendations on wine parings would have been what we expect did not happen.
Food was good we had catch of the day fish was nice. My husband had the mango chicken was very good as well. For it to be a 5 the both our meals were a little over cooked not a deal breaker but given prices and level of service we would expect that to happen. Flavors were good and seasoned well.
Overall was a lovely meal and experience we would go back again. Cost was just over $300 east Caribbean which includes 10% tip and 10% tax.

Outstanding restaurant with amazing views. Amazing customer service & very welcoming and accommodating. The infusion of French cuisine and Caribbean making absolutely beautiful dishes, a tease to the eye and a burst of awakening on the tastebuds! Can’t recommend this restaurant enough! It ticks every box, location, views, service, food, taste, atmosphere, gentle music but not intrusive, huge selection of food and drinks.

Excellent food in an excellent setting. Staying in a nearby hotel on an all inclusive package and decided we needed a change from the mediocre food being served there. We were not disappointed.
We turned up early evening (5.30pm) to enjoy the beautiful Marina setting in Rodney Bay before it got dark. Enjoyed a superb starter of goats cheese tart followed by a beautiful main course of seafood brochette. For dessert the coconut crème brûlée was divine. Great service from the staff.

Incredible experience from start to finish. We arrived ten minutes early, wasn’t a problem we were taken by the owner to the bar for drinks. There was a table coming free next to the waters edge, we advised we were in no rush. A lovely young gent took us to our table, which was the best in the house, right on the edge with stunning views of the harbour lights. He proceeded to discuss the wine options with us, and we ordered our food. Our starters of Liver for me & scallops for my husband were a treat! The sauces incredible! Mains we had duck & lamb both beautiful (husband wanted crispy skin on duck, his own fault as the young lady taking the order did ask how he would like it cooking!) I was completely full, hubby wanted a dessert, which again arrived and was stunning. Absolutely a hidden gem, we introduced ourselves to the owners who were super friendly. Yes it’s a little pricey but worth every penny. Thank you all for a wonderful meal.

A big disappointment , starting first with the service . The wait staff never followed thru in between courses with drinks and the time in between courses was extremely long. The courses were small, don’t expect to share appetizers for your table, the presentation on the plates was superb but the substance on the food was below average for a restaurant with this high price point !!

We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your experience at Jacques. We come to work every day with one goal, to make our guests happy and it is upsetting when we don't achieve this. However in order not to be discouraged and to make sure we keep our eye on our goal, we also have to realise that it's not possible to please all of the people all of the time. I am a little curious about your comment on the courses being small. (The majority of our customers tell us that our portions are generous.) Each plate we serve is designed to serve 1 person, isn't this the norm in a restaurant? Therefore if you would like to share appetizers between say a table of 4 people, it would usually be advisable to order more than 1 appetizer.

Avoid this restaurant if you are looking for a good meal in Saint Lucia. Food was very mediocre and certainly embarrassing for French fine dining. We tried fish, steak, appetizers and dessert… The service was attentive, and ambiance is nice, but it is not worth the visit. We are staying at Cap Maison, and both restaurants are much, much better at the same price point.

We based our decision to visit Jacques on previous reviews and the locality to our accommodation. My goodness! The reviews are spot on! Everything that could be said has been said! Stunning experience celebrating our 37th Wedding anniversary! We were met at the front desk by the now infamous Ali, whom immediately greeted us with a smile and a warm welcome. He guided us through the elegantly decorated restaurant down some steps to the waterside deck aligned with tables and chairs. Our table was decorated with glittery confetti and we were seated and served with every attention to detail you could imagine throughout the evening!
The food we were served ( scallops to start and Lobster as main ) were excellently cooked and presented! All the waitresses that attended us were polite and efficient in their service and are an asset to the establishment. We were served our desserts with a sparkler and congratulations on our anniversary which made our evening even more unique.
This is a must-do when visiting St Lucia, along with the Pitons and the Sulphur springs! A real gem! Thank you Jacques! Pauline and Mark

Menu: Covers fish, beef, pork, lamb & vegetarian selections. Unique appetizers & desserts.
Decor/location: As name implies, on Rodney Bay where each table has a lovely view of the water.
Service: Excellent. Love that the service effort is very much team-based.
Quality: Wonderful. We enjoyed the tastes resulting from the clear effort that went into each dish. For example, the vegetables that accompany every entree - works of art! Filet mignon was great, as was the lamb. Scallops as a special were very good, but would like to see one or two more than the offered serving (two). Crepes Suzette was exceptional as dessert.
Value: Appreciated the live entertainment. Obviously not inexpensive, but worth it. This meal is definitely an experience. We liked it so much, we returned within our week’s vacation to end it on a high note.

Thank you for your review, we are so pleased to hear you enjoyed your experience. I love that you noticed that we work as a team rather than individually. I believe that this not only leads to better service but that it encourages a happy working environment where we all help each other. We always feel honored when our customers return to see us again during their vacation, and especially on their last night.

For anyone who enjoys top quality French cuisine, this restaurant is a must! The menu has much fresh fish on offer but has plenty of other choices. The catch of the day is to be recommended, a choice of 3/4 different fish beautifully grilled and served with a variety of fresh vegetables beautifully presented. As the owner is French understandably there are some excellent French wines on offer as well as other wines from around the world. Lovely situation on the edge of the marina creates a beautiful ambience. Finally the crepe suzettes were to die for!

Lovely ambience and very attentive service. Mahi mahi was very good as was the grouper according to my dinner partners. Prices are not inexpensive but the views are great and the restaurant is near a really nice beach with excellent sunsets.
