Everything was amazing, and the staff were kind, bilingual, and attentive. We had the escargot which the sauce it was in was incredible, and perfect for the fresh bread provided with whipped butter with hints of hazelnut and finishing salt. My partner had the beef tartar which he savored every bite. Then I had duck confit and he had veal. The potatoes and beets were perfect, and the duck was excellent. This restaurant is just down the street from me, and I had heard great things, but never tried it. Happy we finally went. The atmosphere is very Quebecois cabin style, which is authentic and steps away from Gatineau park and an entire sugar bush. It’s expensive, but not as expensive as tasting menus in Ottawa. Tables were far apart so you didn’t feel that you were participating in other peoples dinners. We had a great time, my new favourite French restaurant in Ottawa/ Gatineau. Also tons of free parking.

Nestled in the Gatineau Park (Chelsea, Quebec), this is definitely a place to go for a 5 star meal! The lunch menu (seasonal) was perfect, great choices, all prepared on the outdoor grill. The ingredients were very fresh, most locally sourced. Sit inside or on the patio, you are sure to enjoy your time at the restaurant. It is also worth noting that the staff are very friendly, helpful and well versed in all the menu selections. Special thanks to our server Adeline, you made us feel so welcome and your friendly smile and knowledge of the menu just made our experience perfect! Thank you!

I was exited to return to this restaurant. Unfortunately it was not great! The service did not match the caliber of the price point and the status of the establishement, all the staff were nice, but not that well trained in the kind of service of this restaurant. The food was overly rich and the flavours between the courses were very similar, with mushrooms in all the dishes. The oysters were the best, but alas, the waiters failed to take the plates we used for the oyster back.

Many thanks to Ena, our waitress, her colleagues & the Chef for a wonderful family diner for a special evening (35th anniversary). It was a very lovely evening seated outside on the terrace. L'Orée du Bois was able to accommodate all of our many & varied food intolerances, we had many options (beef, fish, duck veal & more) & the meals were superb, portions were generous. Un gros merci à vous tous!

We arrived at 5:30pm, we were seated right away, menu, wine list, water glasses filled. Shortly our server arrived, I overheard her telling another table she had not served in 4yrs and this was her first shift…….she nailed it! We had “Table Hôte” with wine pairing. The food was wonderful, it was my birthday dinner. We were also here in June and it was excellent.

Location is out of a dream. Service is impeccable. But the food stole the show. Onion soup was everything it could be. Delicious. Just thinking of Foie gras with strawberry marmalade make me reach for my phone for reservations. The recommended Lamb from the grill with the Moroccan inspired salad and sauces was out of this world and I didn't care who watched as I used the fresh baked bread to get all of it off my plate. And the classic Crème Brule done right. I almost always order this if I see it on the menu and always enjoy it but the extra thick layer of sugar on top and the creaminess of the filling has spoiled me to where I may need to look else where for future dessert options. My guests raved about the suggested wine paring to the point they had the waitress write them down so the could buy bottles to enjoy and home. Everyone left happy and I received thank you emails from all of my guests. Always hard to live up to such high expectations but this place did.

Beautiful setting, location and building, one which is perfectly suited for the lovely Gatineau area. Food was set with detail and purpose. Everything was absolutely delicious. From the soup to the appetizer to their specialities; each bite was phenomenal. The chef and team clearly take great pride in what they are doing and it shows. Honestly this was one of the best meals of my life. Even a dessert as ubiquitous as creme brulee was prepared with such care. My partner and I both found this restaurant to be very impressive. The server and staff were wonderful to interact with, also made great recommendations on food and wine and cocktails. The waitstaff we were lucky enough to have for our table was professional, skilled and knowledgable and really went the extra mile for us while making everything appear seamless and easy. We were provided a very high quality fine dining experience in an environment that felt warm, inviting and comfortable. That is not an easy line to walk. It is not simply eating coming to L'Orée du Bois, even to say it is dining is not quite accurate. Visiting this location, in Chelsea QC, is AN EXPERIENCE not to be missed. My partner and I will most assuredly be returning, and we recommend you all do as well.

We had dinner as a couple in this famous Outaouais restaurant. From start to finish everything was perfect. Divine mussel soup. The pan-fried foie gras starter and the decadent morel and sweetbread puff pastry. The main meal of duck breast and exceptional beef fillet. And what about the finale, the floating island dessert and the vanilla mousse, just the presentation was worth the detour and what about the taste… incredible. Note that the bread and desserts are in collaboration with the Oddo pastry/bakery, what a beautiful marriage. We wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant which is worth the detour in this rural and bucolic setting.

Had a pre-Valentine day 6-course dinner. Portions were just right - enough to enjoy the culinary art, not too big to be unable to continue. We went for the wine pairing, which was awesome, but happy that we decided to share one pairing, as there would have been too much wine involved. Only downside is that this ended up being pretty pricey (over $300 for two), but at least we knew in advance. Great experience and cozy atmosphere.

My Wife and I went to this restaurant for our Anniversary this year. We loved the ambiance and cozy feel of this location. The staff was wonderful and provided perfect wine parings for our dinner selections. The food was delicious and the servers allowed an appropriate amount of time between each course. The property is situated just outside the Gatineau Park and has a lovely garden area.

We had a wonderful meal with friends, with excellent service and food that was delicious. The onion soup was a creamed version and was very flavourful. The beef filet was done to perfection, as was the duck breast and trout. Each plate was a picture of art. Finishing off the meal with chocolate mousse was just perfect. The coffee was very good as well. The service could not have been any better; the wait staff were friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. We had an excellent meal in wonderful surroundings.

Arrived with a reservation and requested a table outside. Seated after 5 minutes. Restaurant was not busy. Water arrived then waited 30 minutes to request drinks, and only ordered after asking the water boy to request our server. When drinks arrived, ordered from the table d’hôte. Server suggested we wait to order dessert. The first three courses arrived relatively promptly, not from our server but from another team member, and the food was excellent. Then we waited 30 minutes for the server to order dessert. Requested the bill when we ordered the dessert to go. Dessert arrived promptly but no bill. Waited 10 minutes but no bill, so we went to the exit, and my wife to the car. Waited 10 minutes to pay and departed. Meal was 2 hours 30 minutes, and 1 hour and 20 minutes we spent waiting for the server. Put a sour taste in an otherwise lovely evening, our first outing in 8 months since COVID-19. Thankfully I have a beautiful and patient wife.

We have been several times and it is our favorite both for the food and the overall experience. The menu, although succinct, introduces us to delicious dishes. The wine-menu pairing is always appropriate and allows the discovery of little gems. The service is simply impeccable. We will repeat the experience again soon. A nice hello to Vincent, who always makes the experience perfectly pleasant for us.

My wife and I had our anniversary dinner here. The restaurant is nestled in a lovely country setting surrounded by gardens and woods. The menu is not extensive but offers interesting farm to table choices. We started with appetizers of puff pastry with creamed mushrooms and a salmon rillette. Our mains were duck confit and halibut and dessert was a trio of sorbet and a raspberry chou. Everything was delicious, beautifully plated and service was impeccable. While not inexpensive, would highly recommend for special occasions.
