Location is out of a dream. Service is impeccable. But the food stole the show. Onion soup was everything it could be. Delicious. Just thinking of Foie gras with strawberry marmalade make me reach for my phone for reservations. The recommended Lamb from the grill...with the Moroccan inspired salad and sauces was out of this world and I didn't care who watched as I used the fresh baked bread to get all of it off my plate. And the classic Crème Brule done right. I almost always order this if I see it on the menu and always enjoy it but the extra thick layer of sugar on top and the creaminess of the filling has spoiled me to where I may need to look else where for future dessert options. My guests raved about the suggested wine paring to the point they had the waitress write them down so the could buy bottles to enjoy and home. Everyone left happy and I received thank you emails from all of my guests. Always hard to live up to such high expectations but this place did.More

In December I read that this restaurant, located 30 mins from our house, was voted as top 4th in Canada on Tripadvisor, and we had to try it! Reservation was easily done online, clearly mentioning that one of us was vegetarian. We arrived and welcoming...was not that great….. No one at the welcome desk, and we had to wait for a waitress walking by that area. She invited to leave coats and jackets in the wardrobe (still chilling around here…!) and escorted us to the table. Simple mise en place (as a former farmhouse makes sense). First surprise: despite mentioned in the reservation, no one had the clue about one of us being vegetarian, and options were very limited! Only 3 appetizers (two of them both with mushrooms), and no main. The waitress proposed to change one main replacing the veal with…… mushrooms (again!). Appetizers were very good (my bone marrow was excellent), but mains were definitely on average (a lot of heavy cream…., covering most of the taste). Service was not great (not enough personnel for the number of tables). Overall, for a price of 90 cad each (one appetizer, one main and one drink each) you would expect much more. Box ticked, but we’ll not be back.More

Beautiful setting, location and building, one which is perfectly suited for the lovely Gatineau area. Food was set with detail and purpose. Everything was absolutely delicious. From the soup to the appetizer to their specialities; each bite was phenomenal. The chef and team clearly take...great pride in what they are doing and it shows. Honestly this was one of the best meals of my life. Even a dessert as ubiquitous as creme brulee was prepared with such care. My partner and I both found this restaurant to be very impressive. The server and staff were wonderful to interact with, also made great recommendations on food and wine and cocktails. The waitstaff we were lucky enough to have for our table was professional, skilled and knowledgable and really went the extra mile for us while making everything appear seamless and easy. We were provided a very high quality fine dining experience in an environment that felt warm, inviting and comfortable. That is not an easy line to walk. It is not simply eating coming to L'Orée du Bois, even to say it is dining is not quite accurate. Visiting this location, in Chelsea QC, is AN EXPERIENCE not to be missed. My partner and I will most assuredly be returning, and we recommend you all do as well.More

We went to this restaurant a few years ago and the food was superb. We went again last week and unfortunately it was not as remembered. I had the patè appetizer and it was just OK. My main was the eggplant/tofu dish. It was a...slice of eggplant accompanied by marinated tofu cubes. It tasted like soy sauce and the salt was excessive. I couldn't finish the dish because of the amount of salt. I loved the outdoor setting - it's a lovely patio. But the garden looked untended and barely holding on, and the beehive smelt like the bees were rotting (I'm a beekeeper myself). I hope the restaurant recovers from what is apparently a decline in quality. It's such a beautiful setting.More

What made the visit truly exceptional was the service we received from our server and sommelier Ena. She was brilliant...with her recommendations, her pace was perfect so we could really enjoy the meal experience and not feel rushed and her friendliness and wonderful personality just made it a great outing. Arrived with a reservation and requested a table outside. Seated after 5 minutes. Restaurant was not busy. Water arrived then waited 30 minutes to request drinks, and only ordered after asking the water boy to request our server. When drinks arrived, ordered from the table...d’hôte. Server suggested we wait to order dessert. The first three courses arrived relatively promptly, not from our server but from another team member, and the food was excellent. Then we waited 30 minutes for the server to order dessert. Requested the bill when we ordered the dessert to go. Dessert arrived promptly but no bill. Waited 10 minutes but no bill, so we went to the exit, and my wife to the car. Waited 10 minutes to pay and departed. Meal was 2 hours 30 minutes, and 1 hour and 20 minutes we spent waiting for the server. Put a sour taste in an otherwise lovely evening, our first outing in 8 months since COVID-19. Thankfully I have a beautiful and patient wife.More

We came for the three course lunch - our first visit to this excellent restaurant. It was the first day of the new October menu and we each chose something different so we could share tastes. Our server was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable and each...course was memorable. The chef came by while we were having coffee to chat and ask how everything was for us. We also felt safe and comfortable with their Covid protocol - lots of space around us and an open door for fresh air. The surroundings are gorgeous with paths through the woods with the river below opening to a meadow with a splendid view of the Gatineau Hills in full living colour. We will be back! Pleasant surprise for our little group of 3 people. The service, the decor and the personal attention given to us by the Chef Owner Jean-Claude Chartrand was more than a bonus to our outing. His knowledge and passion for food was refreshing as well as...his explanation of his plates which in return were more than delectable. Ask him about truffles, (the mushrooms not the chocolates). You will see his face light up when he explains the quality and types of the tuber. We highly recommend a visit to this restaurant, there is also a small path through a wooded area bringing to main street of Old Chelseathe were you can go, stretch your legs and digest a wonderful meal afterwards.More

My wife and I have marked several special occasions by dining at L'Orée du Bois in Chelsea QC over the past 30 years. In fact, we just celebrated our 36th wedding anniversary with an excellent lunch on their wonderful outdoor patio. As always, the food...was delicious and the service excellent! COVID-19 poses innumerable challenges for restauranteurs, but I can say that the staff have done a wonderful job in adapting. The tables are safely spaced without looking “sparse” and staff are wearing proper safety gear. Guests are required to wear masks until they reach their tables and are encouraged to sanitize their hands upon arrival. My wife and I felt very safe and comfortable - considering this was our first restaurant visit in over 6 months! And now for the food - which was fabulous! A wonderful three-course lunch from their Table d'hôte, which included a good variety of main dishes and accompaniments. The cuisine is local, and imaginatively and perfectly prepared. You owe it to yourselves to visit L'Orée du Bois. You won't regret it!More

Yes, I’m pretty sure it is accessible. I don’t remember any obstacles, but it’s probably best to check with the restaurant itself.
