Excellent food and attentive service at this quirky establishment. Food is homely but plentiful and delicious. If you're a wine fanatic it's best to take your own. It is authentic, warm, friendly and an oasis in Smithfield!

The Manager, Francois, cooked us a perfect omelette. This eatery is not just a restaurant, but an art gallery as well We enjoyed our breakfast very much

Nice enough people, but very mediocre food. And not a lot of it either. Which is a pity because it could be really great. The dining area, which is sometimes in the main house or in the art gallery outside, has a good sense of place. But the food does not match the fanfare that precedes it. Sorry.

If staying at trading Places, Gus will willingly reserve dinner and breakfast for you here. A three course meal is served with personal service and interesting owner.

At the Laughing Likkewaan the menu depends on what the chef prepares on the day. Very often the food has a Mediterranean flavour but they make dishes from all around the world. Their Thai and Vietnamese dishes are legendary and definitely my favourite. The meals are packed with fresh ingredients, minimal use of dairy and oil and filled with complementary... More

We were on our way back from the Eastern Cape on a public holiday. I started searching for restaurants on Trip Advisor and this restaurant caught my attention. I phoned and asked if they were open. Greg said that they were closed for the day but we are welcome to visit them and they will prepare us something to eat.... More

We decided to explore something new on our drive back from Trennery's. The Likkewaan was perfect. Greg and Alistair were the perfect hosts and the Lamb Tagine was fantastic. I recommend the peanut butter ice cream. There is also a gallery and book shop you can wander in while you wait. There are rooms as well and we will definitely... More

We stayed over in the overnight rooms, and were invited for dinner in the restaurant. We were only four people, but what a good experience. The friendly owner inquired about our preferences, and we could sit down for a three course meal - real home cooking! And home made ice-cream! (peanut butter and marmalade flavors!) Will definitely stop over again... More

Greg and Alistair are the greatest of hosts. Their food is superb. The atmosphere is great. I was really drawn to the vibe that is The Laughing Likkewaan. I have a new Facebook friend in Greg. A truly great personality who runs an art gallery and some self catering units on the premises, along with the restaurant. He has the... More
