It was an ideal wellbeing experience. Majestic. We engage and merge into a magic atmosphere combination of pleasures and senses. The food - entrees you must try them all - was in perfect harmony to the elements previously described.
I wrote a review of this place in 2014 (see "Magical setting and excellent food".) I went again this year and thought the review deserves an update. By now Jose Ignacio has cemented its place as the most sought after Uruguayan summer location for the..."it" crowd, and Marismo finds itself perfectly positioned in the middle of it. Driving to Jose Ignacio for dinner has gone from an adventure to a trivial affair, even from the East where a spanking new bridge to Rocha was built a few years ago. In the middle of this evolution of its neighborhood Marismo has maintained the quality of its food and service and its unique setting, attracting a steadily growing clientele. Even now in the middle of Covid and past the early January peak the place is buzzing - we went there 2 nights in a row and they were filled to 50+% capacity both times. The food we got was generally excellent, the oven baked lamb and the burrata appetizer were simply out of this world. The Brotola dish while fine was perhaps overshadowed by the other dishes; I’ve had more impressive Brotola specimens. (One diner next to us said it was Chilean brotola, the best Brotola I’ve had in Uruguay was fished in Rocha according to the restaurateur at the time.) The drinks were competently made and the menu offers a choice of vodkas for one's caipiroska, a nice touch. Deserts were the only place where we found room for a bit of nitpicking. The flourless chocolate cake was on the dry, brownie-style side (I would have preferred a more buttery Nemesis type.) The oven baked fruits with ice cream were on the underripe side and thus not that flavorfull, perhaps a dash of hot dark chocolate sauce might have improved the situation. The service was impeccable, lots of competent waiters periodically roaming around the place for you to flag down. BOTTOM LINE: Marismo is still a unique experience HIGHLY worth trying at least once during your Uruguayan summer stay. (Note: As other reviewers occasionally point out - especially this year when the Argentine cost-is-no-object “it” crowd couldn’t make it due to COVID - it is a pricey restaurant and not a good suggestion for a casual dinner or an outing with a truck load of kids.)More
The quality of the food completely "blew me away" !!!
I had heard about Marismo, but I had no idea it was so exceptional.
Slightly difficult to find the first time, but well worth the hunt.
The atmosphere is laid-back, the service was prompt, friendly,...attentive.
The flavors of each dish were deep and satisfying.
The perfect place for a memorable summer meal.
I can hardly wait to go back again !!More
Came here with a few friends when we were visiting Punta del Este for the weekend. The service was wonderful, and the atmosphere of the restaurant is so unique! Everything on the sand, lit by candles (and a firepit in the middle when it gets...chilly) and surrounded by flowers. Would definitely go back!More
Excellent service, delicious fresh tasty
Food. This was the amazing discovery of Jose Ignacio. The staff is extremely helpful and nice, location is more preserved that at the beach. The food is amazingly cooked. Highly recommand!
What an amazing and adorable place!
Perfect food, unbelievable service, beautiful place.
Thanks for the perfect first lunch of 2020!
Great clericot and incredible atmosphere.
We couldn’t leave, so good it was.
I used lo loved this place....not anymore!!! I had a reservation for 6 people, we waited one hour until we got our table. There was a band playing music, the music was so loud that we couldn’t talk to each other!!!
This restaurant some years...ago was a lovely place, very cozy, few tables in the sand by the fire, great food and service....it gets bigger and bigger each year and unfortunately the restaurant is loosing its charm.
If you are lucky to be in Jose Ignacio in January, follow my advise and go to Namm instead of Marismo. One of the nicest restaurant in the world with great food and service...believe me!More
