We came across Barabouf my chance and were fascinated by the blackboard menu in French. The restaurant was buzzing when we arrived and made to feel most welcome. The menu was explained to us in English and we choose a delightful raclette and beetroot starters...fooled by prawns in a creamy sauce and shank of lamb. All absolutely marvellous. Without doubt the best meal of our visit to Quebec and the Maritimes. The restaurant and menu was more French than in France!More

A great find such friendly staff and an amazing menu, the attention to detail was incredible and the flavours superb, there was so much choice and honestly probably the best meal we’ve had so far (8 days) BYO too which is very useful. Highly recommend...this restaurant which also plays great music and has a very buzzy vibe.More

That's it, hands down, full stop. The nicest people, so invested in their work and the food they make and so kind. We were there with a very large group and had a wonderful time. Even had vegan options, which I was not expecting for...a primarily french restaurant! But they will do whatever they need to do in order to make you happy. BYOB but there's a store across the street.More

Five friends enjoyed an absolutely delicious dinner at this restaurant. Service was perfect. Atmosphere delightful although a tad noisy. We chose a three course dinner. One first course was a salad with puff pastry and Brie. The orzo with prosciutto and blue cheese was heavenly...as was the risotto. The salmon was cooked to perfection. Dessert was a huge platter to share with crepes, cream puffs filled with ice cream and drizzled with maple syrup, brownies with chocolate sauce and more. Unbelievably delicious!More

We had a play to catch with another couple at 8 pm on July 26 over in the next county so the four of us made reservations for 5 o’clock. The restaurant is situated in a neighbourhood that is basically a restaurant zone – a...very lively place even on a Thursday night. Our waitress – the chef’s wife – gave us a detailed description of every item on the menu: chalked up on a large blackboard hoisted on a large easel (there were four of these in the “grotto” out back where we were seated) and the speech lasted a good five minutes. By the end, we were completely convinced that we wanted to try every single item…! Naturally, that wasn’t possible but we did enjoy some really wonderful food. The paella was Huge – and prepared without chorizo at our request, which was a nice touch! The seafood within was as fresh as can be, particularly the calamari. The Magret de Canard was a fairly major serving as well served with exquisitely cooked vegetables. We brought our own wine – it’s a bring your own place and the bill still ended up at well over $100 for the two of us – the same for our friends. The duck dish was ordered on the table d’hôte so that meal came with coffee and dessert but we got charged for two appetizers… The fact is that as time went on, it became apparent that there were only three people serving a good two-dozen tables and they were running off their feet. Our waitress, in particular, was looking a little stressed because she knew we were on a timeline and she did her best to get everything we asked for. However, we simply ran out of time – and consequently missed the first 10 minutes of that play. That said, we look forward to going back – the food is worth it and the ambience of the place is wonderfully relaxing.More

My wife and I and several friends had dinner at le Barabouf in February 2018 and it was an excellent experience. The food is essentially French cuisine and it varies from veal dishes to seafood. The portions are enormous so check with your waiter/waitress before...ordering. Desserts are scrumptious and many are made on the spot. You have to reserve quite a while in advance to get a table at le Barabouf, so be warned!More

I visited the restaurant with my wife to celebrate a special occasion. Some of my friends recommended the restaurant. Good food, huge portions, etc. The restaurant is noisy but.. this is a "café" so... it is usually noisy. The service was very slow at the...beginning but they catch up and we have been very well served. The restaurant ambience is nice. A lot of space at the counter so you can see people cooking. The terrace is nice if you want to be outside. The menu choices is nice. A lot of different choices, fish, meat, oriental dishes, etc. The "table d'hôte" is very good (appetizer, dessert and good coffee for 15 $) but... with the main course it is way too much food... I can eat a lot but was too much... we had to bring stuff back home... nice lunch next day :-) The risotto "forestier" (mushroom) was good but a little to salty. The "boudin noir" was also very tasty and the portion was huge. The dessert was great. We had good time !More

Absolute best food at a Bring Your Own Wine restaurat. Although a bit loud in the restaurant, the atmosphere is upbeat. The variety of the menu is way above excellent. We were with a couple of frends and all took different dishes and enjoyed sharing...amongst aourselves. It was so good that we decided to come back and all order completely different dishes!More
