We had a play to catch with another couple at 8 pm on July 26 over in the next county so the four of us made reservations for 5 o’clock. The restaurant is situated in a neighbourhood that is basically a restaurant zone – a...very lively place even on a Thursday night.
Our waitress – the chef’s wife – gave us a detailed description of every item on the menu: chalked up on a large blackboard hoisted on a large easel (there were four of these in the “grotto” out back where we were seated) and the speech lasted a good five minutes. By the end, we were completely convinced that we wanted to try every single item…!
Naturally, that wasn’t possible but we did enjoy some really wonderful food. The paella was Huge – and prepared without chorizo at our request, which was a nice touch! The seafood within was as fresh as can be, particularly the calamari. The Magret de Canard was a fairly major serving as well served with exquisitely cooked vegetables.
We brought our own wine – it’s a bring your own place and the bill still ended up at well over $100 for the two of us – the same for our friends. The duck dish was ordered on the table d’hôte so that meal came with coffee and dessert but we got charged for two appetizers…
The fact is that as time went on, it became apparent that there were only three people serving a good two-dozen tables and they were running off their feet. Our waitress, in particular, was looking a little stressed because she knew we were on a timeline and she did her best to get everything we asked for. However, we simply ran out of time – and consequently missed the first 10 minutes of that play.
That said, we look forward to going back – the food is worth it and the ambience of the place is wonderfully relaxing.More
