We received a gift card for Christmas so we decided to use it for a nice meal. Due to the lockdown we decided to do takeout. We split mandarin salad and crab cakes, to start. Both were delicious and we have leftovers for lunch. We...split a steak dinner with colcannon potatoes (yummy) and veg. Lots of food and we were both full with the one meal. And of course we had to have sticky toffee pudding. We got a large piece and I have more for tomorrow as well. My husband had carrot cake and said it was very good. The food was ready on time and pick up was safe and easy. Thank you John and staff for a great meal at home! Well worth the trip to Newcastle from Bowmanville 😀More

Returned for a visit this week and was not surprised to find the same friendly owner doing an amazing of keeping everyone safe with all the new measures in place. I had...the carrot ginger soup folliwed by homemade crab cakes both of which were delicious. Great service and even in these times still a friendly happy atmosphere. It was great to be back.More

This was our 4th visit to the Snug. Not sure what has happened but the food items we ordered that we enjoyed in the past are not the same. Smaller portions and not prepared in same manner. Very disappointed and will not be going back....Too bad, used to be great eating experience.More

We recently visited friends in Newcastle and had dinner on the new side patio. The food, service and prices were amazing. A shout out to our server Sue, it was very busy and she never stopped running but always had a smile and time for...a chat. Three of us had lasagna and Caesar salad and one had the Trio pot pies with the Irish mashed potatoes. All the food was amazing, so much so that I asked for the recipe for the potatoes and will be making them at home. Save room for the sticky toffee pudding, another huge hit. Coming from Liverpool, it was like stepping back in time to an authentic pub in the old country. We had a nice chat with John and he was very friendly and welcoming, he and his team are doing an amazing job during the pandemic. Our friends tell us the fish and chips are another must have. So we look forward to visiting again to try them and sit inside and enjoy all the memorabilia that was shipped from Ireland. Newcastle you have a gem of a pub there, enjoyMore

John Walsh's pub is well worth visiting you won't be disappointed. My husband and I enjoy this place so much we go there quite regularly. We are so pleased we found John Walsh's pub about 6 years ago. The food is always delicious and you...can''t go wrong with any items on their menu. Our family all love this pub as well. We have referred several friends to John's place. The staff are always friendly and John himself is always welcoming and cheery. During the Pandemic John came up with a brilliant idea of having a Take Out window. Working hard as always he is doing a fantastic job. Finally when patios were allowed he opened his out the front. Then we were surprised to find he had just designed a side patio which we are very fond of. It is so well done, like being on a street in Ireland. Very innovative! John we are hoping that you will somehow be able to keep your side patio going in the cooler weather as well; it is quite protected. John and Marlene MasonMore

Great little place that happens to make BIG burgers! The one that stands out is the Batter Burger... yes, a burger that has been battered and deep friend, then served on a bun. Be sure to load it up with all your favourite toppings!
