With the limited options to go anywhere under the COVID-19 measures, we decided to just go for a long drive around the island on Queen Victoria's day holiday. We did not expect the Ice cream shop opened until we saw patron activity driving around Masset. This is still Charter's Food truck sister kiosk called Sweets & Treats. On the Charter's Facebook page, they update their open hours almost regularly. Wait time is not too long and service is polite and efficient. Our orders were ready in under 5 minutes. The payment method is tap so it made it way quicker. We arrived just before the afternoon rush started. For $6 for a sundae cup, we decided on Banana Cream and Caramel Walnut. All sundaes are soft serve and the toppings were generous. There are other sundae options, regular soft serve, and chocolate-dipped. For an added bit of luxury, you can indulge in a sexy waffle cone for your chosen sweet treat. We truly liked our sundaes and finished them in the next 10 minutes. We highly recommend you to try out this ice cream shop.
So good!! We went here every day while we were in Masset and couldn’t get enough. Such a cute little shop inside and had the best coffee on Haida Gwaii. The cinnamon buns and muffins were also delicious, but I ate them before I could take pictures lol
We dined here for lunch after our initial choice, The 626, was closed despite their FB stating otherwise (shame on you!). I think the Tow Truck turned out to be a more than suitable replacement. It's obviously very popular (it had a line), and I can see why. Our fish & chips + chicken burger were nothing short of fantastic. The fish were cooked nicely, had a light crisp batter; the crispy chicken burger was, well, crispy but the chicken inside was juicy and delicious! On top of fantastic taste, the presentation was on par with restaurants in the big city. We would definitely return and are anxious to try other items on the menu!
The food really has no flavor. The gravy is not homemade type but gives taste to the food. Better go to food truck down road. The tow truck. Not the fish one, that's not nice
My wife and I had Halibut and Chips (along with good conversation) on a stay to the area. The batter was light, the halibut fresh and perfectly cooked and there was no oil that soaked onto the paper plates plus the fries were had cut in the restaurant. The kind of place I love to eat.
I guess they finally figured out people dont want a disco blaring in their ears when they are trying to order food. Been back a few times. Have had some great meals here and some very dismal ones. No consistency at all. Last time i had a burger they put so much garlic in the burger it was nearly inedible. Went to talk to the young lady working and she says " ya there must have been too much garlic put in when they made them, a few others have told me the same thing today". If a few others said the burgers were not good wouldnt you do something about it? She offered no solution other than to shrug her shoulders then ignore me.
We ordered the dinner for 4. Dinner comes with spring rolls, sweet /sour breaded shrimp, deluxe fried rice, chicken chow mein, breaded garlic pork, chicken with veg in black bean sauce. Everything was hot, fresh and very good. Plenty of food for four people. Highly recommend it.
We'd intended to visit the newly opened Red Rooster, but they were closed despite their posted business hours. It had been a few years since we dined at Golden PAM, but the place was surprisingly busy with dine-in patrons. We ordered a combo of chow mein, wings and deep-fried prawns; wonton soup; and salt & pepper prawns. The chow mein was boring and lacked flavour, but the deep fried prawns had a nice light batter. We also liked the unique presentation of the salt & pepper prawns. The wonton soup could use a bit more work, though. Very little flavour. We hear this restaurant is closed (permanently? temporarily?) because the cook recently passed away.
