No, not really. There is a small information leaflet on the check-in counter, but at least in my case, I have not been asked, nor has my hand luggage been weighed in Dubai.

To be fair, this process in Dubai needs improvement. It could be done simply by weighing the hand luggage before the hold luggage disappears. That avoids some frustration at a later point.

On the other side in ZRH, my hand luggage was checked, roughly.Just the total weight of both bags but not every individual bag. And to be fair, I would feel a bit strange, if I had to pack weight from one to another bag to comply with the individual bag weight. But, Emirates would have the right to do so.

But, how the process in Dubai is handled is a bit unusual. They should enforce at check-in and not after check-in before passport control. That is a bit patronising in the style of "We told you so" or "Why did you not read before".

It will only be unpleasant to pax who dont read the T's & C's or think they can get away with it. Well done Emirates. If every airline enforced this rule all the time then you wouldn't get the same old question on here - '' How strict is XYZ's carry on rule?''

The problem with weighing the hand luggage at check in is that on some flights passengers 'hide' their luggage!

Often extra items are left with friends and relatives nearby or hidden behind signs or pillars to be readded to hand luggage bags after the checkin formalities. Flights to India, Pakistan, Isreal and The Gambia seem to be favourites for this trick, at least from the U.K. I think DXB airport might have wished up to this hence the screening and weighing of hand baggage later on.

Yes , in Dubai there is a new 'checkpoint' just before the ticket check before the immigration / passport check after check-in. Every piece of hand luggage is checked and a person refused to go further, if the luggage is too heavy.

But there are also pax which may just have not prepared themselves good enough and should be given the chance to put some of the hand luggage content into the hold luggage before the hold luggage is sent away.

Passengers are told multiple times what the carry on luggage limit is, from when they booked their tickets, getting there tickets, online T&Cs as well as at check in by way of stickers and signs. What more do ppl need?

I applaud emirates for doing this, and making it a lot harder for the cheats who try hidding extra bags/items for after they have checked in.

Almost all airports ive ever been to have scales that you can weigh ur bags before check in (albeit, some u do have to go looking for), so if anyone is worried about the weight of their carry on should be weighing it before they check in, not after.
