A day in Rosscarbery?

My husband and I have some time in County Cork and are wondering if a day in Rosscarbery would be a good time investment. We will have to take Bus Eireann there and back to Cork in the same day,'so wondering if it is worth the effort. We enjoy good food, architecture and any sort of scenic photography.

Ross is lovely, but not sure I'd find enough to fill a day without a car to get to the beaches etc. especially if it rains. Are you staying in the city?

Maybe just take a local bus to Kinsale.

If you get a nice day, you could fill the time in Rosscarbery.

Do some watersports at the Lagoon Activity Centre.

Walk down to Warren Strand and spend some time on the beach.

Play a round of Pitch & Putt at the course there.

Walk over the headland to Owenahincha.

Hire a bicycle and go to explore the area around Castlefreke.

On a wet day... Nothing...

Given the other choices between Kinsale and Cobh, I would marhinally tend to Cobh. Kinsale is certainly prettier and has better food options, but there is more to do in general around Cobh.

Thank you very much, all. We are based in Glounthaune outside of Cork. We have been to Cobh, Kinsale, Cork City, Midleton and plan a day in Fota. Looking for more hidden gems. If you can think of any that we have not already visited, we could use the advice.

Assuming you'll be using public transport.

From Glounthaune, Youghal should be fairly easily accessible. And there are a number of historic building to see. Unfortunately, they aren't well sign-posted in the town, so bring a guide.

Ballycotton could also be an option, although you'll need to get down to Carrigtwohill to pick up the bus.

If heading towards Rosscarbery, there's a bit more to do in the Clonakilty area and again bike hire can take you out to places a bit outside the town.

Also, try Crosshaven. A visit to Camden Fort is really worthwhile and there is some nice walking near the town.
