Are there stainless or brass bells?

Hi! Just wondering if all of the bells are copper? Are there any stainless or brass pieces? Do you have any links to any photos of great things to buy in Villedieu-les-Poeles? Or in the nearby area, between there & Cherbourg? I like unique things, and also food... Thanks!

Bells are made of bronze. Copper is too malléable and wouldn't ring.

At Villedieu there is the bell foundry and a separate copper work shop. Many shops sell copper items in the town. Some sell made in china. If something seems a bargain , watch out.

As someone said above, bells are bronze. In Villedieu visit the Atelier du Cuivre. Lovely souvenirs.

For great Breton sweaters and outerwear go to Saint-James near Mont St Michel - They have a boutique. boutique-saint-james.fr

It's a 34 minute drive.

@cpmac - of course, bronze makes more sense, thanks!

@Phillycook - Those are nice sweaters, and the workshop looks great. Thank you!

If you haven't already seen it, this is a very good explanation of what to find.

You will often see shops with frying pans (poeles) hanging as signs.

We visited the bell foundry. The tour was in English and fascinating. They had just made the D-Day bell for Bayeux which we had seen in the nave of the cathedral there. The shop at the foundry had many things for sale including many poeles of different sizes.

A bit from our web page. http://www.nickbooth.id.au/Europe14/Vitre.html
