Villedieu-les-Poeles

Is the village of Villedieu-les-Poeles open all day on a Saturday? I don't want to spend 4hours on the train only to find out it is closed on Saturday afternoons. I was hoping the copper shop, Mauviel & bell foundry etc were open.

Villages don't close down. Of course it's open. You can google for the precise hours of Mauviel & Bell

>>Villages don't close down<<

Oh yes they do. I have been in many French villages that totally closed at lunch time. For several hours.

It depends which site you believe. One says it is open Saturday afternoon 2 - 6pm, the other 2 sites say it is closed. I would suspect that the foundry and probably the factory shop are not open.

No Villedieu doesn't close on a Saturday afternoon. In fact it's one of the few towns where a lot of the shops (the copper ones anyway) are even open on a Sunday.

The Bell Foundry is open from 10th February to 11th November, Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 12.30 and then 2pm to 5.30. During July and August it is open every day from 9.30 to 6.30, including lunchtime! I think you may find that Mauviel's factory outlet will be closed on a Saturday but you can buy their pans etc in most of the shops in Villedieu, you just won't get a discounted rate.

For the copperware made in Villedieu you pay hte price for the craftsmanship. If something looks a cheap'price look carefully where it was made. Many shops sell imports.

Thank you so much for your replies. It has been very helpful as I didn't want to spend hours in the train getting there only to find most of the shops closed on a Saturday. I have never been to France before and spending 3 days there in April. Each day will be very precious. I love copper. Thank you also for the tip on the cheap copper being imported. This is the first time I have used Tripadvisor. :-)

cpmac's right, there is a lot of imported stuff but if you ask in the shop they will be happy to show you the real Villedieu stuff - it's a lot more expensive. I have bought both in the past, not realising the difference and would only ever buy the real stuff again - it lasts a lifetime but the imports have long since been thrown away!!
