Parking campervan on Loch Morar

Hi does anyone know if parking a campervan on Loch Morar is permitted, and if so where's the best spot? Thanks

The nearest sites to the west end of Loch Morar are Camusdarroch or Silver Sands but there are around half a dozen in the immediate area. Otherwise there is nowhere on the short stretches of public road near the loch where you can legally park-up - beyond “rest” as defined by the road traffic acts at least.

Also, be aware that due to the particularly high levels of inconsiderate/illegal parking-up this year and the associated issues of noise/waste/disturbance etc, the traditional levels of tolerance for folk in vans is at its lowest for a very long time now.

I'd park it beside the loch not on it.

I think that that may be tongue in cheek...... :-)

Contrary to what some would have you believe, provided you are not causing an obstruction or otherwise committing a traffic offence, it is not illegal to overnight in a vehicle in a layby UNLESS specifically forbidden by a local Bye Law or Traffic Order (in which case there must be specific signage to that effect). Truckers do it all the time.

That said, the sheer numbers of motorhomes around the Highlands at present, and the thoughtless behaviour of an irresponsible minority of campervanners, is giving rise to much hostility among locals across the area.

Best find a proper campsite.
