Morar vs Balmacara

We are taking the train from Fort William to Mallaig and thereafter have two choices.

We either stay the evening at Morar for the beach or hop over Skye at Armadale with the ferry and proceed to Balmacara at Kyle of Lochlash. Looks like a pretty village.

Morar or Balmacara?

You may find transport is the limiting factor. There are very few buses onwards from Armadale.

Balmacara has great views to Skye, A hotel/pub and you can pick-up Scallop shells on the beach around the little slipway. It is served by the city link coaches to Portree and Uig plus the Kyle/Plockton local bus service.

Morar is utterly lovely too but as mentioned above, although it has a reasonable service and train to Mallaig, the very poor bus service north from Armadale is your limiting factor.

Thanks. We plan to take a cab from Armadale pier to Balmacara. Will take 30 mins.

I saw Balmacara village on the net and it looked nice I checked the Hotel/pub you mentioned. Is it the Balmacara hotel?

30 minutes might be a tad optimistic IMO!

Personally, I'd stick with Morar.Have you asked for a price for the taxi from Armadale? Taxi services on the islands ain't cheap!

You can walk to the Silver Sands of Morar and/or Loch Morar, beautiful area.

The views to Skye from the viewpoint in Morar village are outstanding.

Thanks. Morar sounds fabulous.

If we get there around 6 - 7 pm, is it still viable to go down to Morar Beach and spend an hour or two? May be deserted or unsafe.
