Staying at the Rex - rent a car for a day?

Hi everyone,

We'll be going to the Rex this February and are considering renting a car for the day. We've never rented a car in the Carribean, and were wondering whether we should rent a car or just do a couple of day trips.

We want to visit the Grand Anse beach, go to St George, visit a cocoa and nutmeg plantation, and maybe just drive around the island.

Your thoughts?

AC was great. For $60USD pp, they picked us up from hotel, about 10 or so ppl in the group, at 9am, and dropped off at around 5pm. They took us to the falls, the cocoa plantation, the nutmeg factory, and the rum distillery. They drove us through practically the entire island, and drove through St George and Grand Anse area. We had lunch (included in price) at a local restaurant, with local food (there were locals also eating there), and it was great. They also took us to the Grand Etang lake and the famous cliff. It was a long day, but we thoroughly enjoyed it, and thought it was excellent value. The tour guide was excellent, giving us so much knowledge about the island.
