What is the present situation with the Chikungunya disease?

I have recently finished 7 month cancer treatment, which includes chemotherapy and radiotherapy. My immune system will not be as strong as a normal persons. Mosquitos also love to bite me I seem to attract them. So I expect to get some bites. How many people have been recently effected? Has there been a vaccination found? Has the situation become worse in the last year?

I am seriously thinking I will not be able to go to Grenada now in February and will loose all my money as I cannot cancel.

Read all about the concept of herd immunity, there is no chukungunya noticeable on grenada at all. There is no vaccination in existance for this. There is one for 3 of the 4 types of dengue fever but that isnt present on the island either at present, and the tropical diseases hospitals in london and liverpool are unlikely to give you the innoculation.

Therefore i dont think you have a problem. However, if you cant get medical insurance i wouldnt go, there are other risks, ultimately grenada doesnt have the medical help of the nhs, and you are saying you are vunerable to infections etc.

I would suggest you speak with your physician, oncologist or a travel specialist rather than make a decision based on the views of posters on a travel forum. Make sure you mention chik, zika and dengue. Only they would know how compromised your immune system is after going through the treatments you have had.

Cant argue with that... Those arent the only risks too, if you are compromised, a simple infection or bad stomach could be a serious issue. The issue is that the nhs could possibly cope with this, grenadian medecine possibly not.

NB a close relative had cancer a few years back, this doesnt necessarily make you uninsurable, use martin lewis's money saving website to select insurance providers to check with for pre-existing conditions, you may pay a bit more, but if they cover you its worth something.
