Taxi's from Gamboa Rainforest Resort

Are taxi's readily available at any time of day at Gamboa Resort?

Here are a few places we might want to go from the resort, and we're thinking that we need a taxi to get there, unless any of them are in walking distance????

the public marina to ask a local to take us fishing

Summit Botanical Gardens

Rainforest Discovery Center

Marina is close to the resort and you can walk there or you can call some of the locals on there cell phone.

Discovery centar is about 6-7 km from the resort and Summit Botanical Gardens you should pick up the taxi or if you are in good shape rent a bike.

All the best,

Be aware that if you ask the hotel desk to call a taxi, it will be more of a "car service", fairly expensive but very good condition and a/c. I paid $15 one-way to Summit Gardens, whereas Panama City taxis (yellow cabs) are both less well equipped and much cheaper.

But I did enjoy the harpy eagle exhibit (and entry to the park was only $1!)

See if you can find a taxi driver (while you're in Panama City?) that you like - get his contact info. Ask him what he'd charge to pick you up at Gamboa and take you to X (or stay with you for some part of the day). We latched on to a regular taxi driver who happened to be dropping someone off at the resort. The Spanish speaking woman who got out of the car said "and he's a good driver too. . . . " so we grabbed him. We paid him $8 to $10 an hour to drive us a couple places from the resort. And we later had him pick us up in the City for airport transfer - all cheaper than working through resorts or hotels. But you might need some Spanish. Regular taxis were not buzzing in and out of Gamboa Resort a few years ago when we were there.
