Distance to Cancun and currency

Hi all, we are travelling to the EPM in July (previously stayed at ERC) does anyone know how long it takes in a taxi to Cancun strip and how much this would be. Also we have been advised that Mexico is no longer accepting the dollar and that we should only take pesos...is this in fact the case?

Thanks in advance. :-)

I recommend you take pesos as it costs you more to spend dollars and you have to exchange anyway. Dollars are not accepted for the payment of departure tax and some resorts have stopped accepting them for payment. Off-resort they are still accepted almost universally in the Cancun area.

Hola! EPM is located in the mainland area of Isla Mujeres municipality, but by marketing strategies is considered as part of Cancun (not located in the Cancun Hotel Zone).

The ride from EPM to Cancun Hotel Zone takes between 20 to 30 minutes according the place you want to go, shopping mall, marinas, etc and the cab rate is between $200 to $300 Pesos (depending of the zone where you want to go).

About the USD currency in Mexico, it is a new law since June 2010 for local people and foreign travellers to Mexico. Here is the official advice from the Mexican Tourism Bureau sectur.gob.mx/es/secturing/Recommendations_f…

But don´t worry, most of the establishments still accepting USD. My personal recommendations are:

-Try to get most of your vacations pre-paid (airport transfers and tours).

-Bring a few Pesos in cash from your country (change USD to Pesos) and less USD in cash.

-Use your credit card in establishments that accept this payment solution, and use the cash for souvenirs, gratuities and small extra fees.

-Don´t worry if you don´t have enought Pesos or USD in cash with you, ATM machines are available in most of the hotels and surroundings. They will give you Pesos in cash.

Welcome to the Mexican Caribbean and enjoy your stay!

Everything in the hotel is priced in dollars but of course they accept pesos. Some of the tourist sites don't accept dollars anymore but the signs at the airport said they still accepted dollars for the departure tax in March.

cheaper to get pesos at home anyways... we always take pesos for our incidentals and tips, and pay the hotel in cash ( US$)..

We always use pesos in Mexico, after all it is the country's currency.

Someone should tell Mexico that. I saw far more things priced in dollars than pesos.

Yes, things are priced in dollars. You, the consumer, gets a bad exchange rate, and the vendor makes more money. Use pesos and generally you will save money.

whoever gave you this advice is dead wrong as USD is still widely accepted. better to use pesos for the exchange rate.
