Construction on Hwy 101 at Crescent Lake Area

I've read the NPS website for ONP regarding the construction project on Highway 101 along Lake Crescent. I understand that the work will be ongoing on weekdays during summer 2019.

How is the construction/delays different for westbound traffic and eastbound traffic?

Does the road work affect a visit to Sol Duc Falls?

The delays are the same in either direction because they result from turning a two lane road into a one lane road. This means alternating closures, complete with flag cars. Yes, they most definitely affect trips to Sol Duc Falls if you are based in Port Angeles or on Lake Crescent itself.

Thank you for the reply, kaleburg. Sounds like we will have a similar delay from a stop at Sol Duc Falls to Lake Crescent if touring in a clockwise direction OR from Lake Crescent to Sol Duc Falls if touring in a counterclockwise direction.

We are encountering roadwork in many of the national parks. I won't complain. The roads need to be in good condition for our safe travel.

Yes, you would encounter these delays next summer whichever direction you chose. Work will be suspended on holidays and on weekends. Work may be suspended on summer fridays as well. In the spring, there may be a few long road shutdowns (4 hours), but these should not continue into the summer. With luck, any summer delays should be less than 30 minutes.

You are right that the road construction is necessary, and it's great that you understand that. Two people were killed on this stretch of road on separate occasions. One was killed by a falling tree, another by a boulder that bounced down the cliff above the road. So tragic.
