Will I need a car rental in Aruba - Staying at Palma Real

Staying for Two weeks in Aruba in September at the Palma Real Apartments. Wonder how far that is from restaurant area. Are taxis available or is it less expensive to rent a car ? Or maybe a combination of both. We exercise by walking every day for an hour or more. Is the main tourist centre farther than a 30 minute walk? Arriving in early September.

You have some great restaurants within a 15-20 minute walk. You may want a car for the first couple days for a grocery store trip and just to find your way around but it is definitely walkable to lots of places. You may want to ask a taxi driver for their card for when you want pick ups from the condo, but getting back just go to the nearest hotel or have the restaurant call for you. We prefer taxis and/or walking because we like to have a few drinks with dinner. Having a car is nice for the convenience of coming and going. We find that we only need taxis 2 or 3 nights, plus the grocery store and airport so we break even with the cost of taxis vs renting. Use google maps to get. Good idea of whats around you, it even gives times and distance for walking.

If you are willing to walk as suggested by Traceysmiles14 for 15-20 minutes to the restaurants in the hotel area near the beach you could take the bus from that point to many places along the hotel area and into town to more restaurants and shopping. This might work out better than taking a taxi.

Walk to the beach from your apartment is about 15 min which is also where many restaurants are and there are quite a few on the way such as Bingo's right across the street from your apartment (great place to eat)

Waky Wahoo and sooo many others. Having a car in Aruba is mostly for sight seeing, hotel and casino hopping, touring the other side. If you don't want to do that then you have everything around you within walking distance (except major supermarket). I can't stay in Aruba without a car because every night we just drive around.

There are a lot of good, popular restaurants within a mile of where you will be staying and taxis are generally plentiful, but I doubt you'll have any waiting where you will be staying. To go anywhere you'll have to call and request one to pick you up, which could be a while during peak (dinner time) hours.

We have stayed at Palma Real and we had a car. I like to go where we want when we want, waiting for cabs can get frustrating at peak times. If you rent a small car it does not cost a lot. Enjoy your trip!
