Is Aruba Expensive?

A group of three to four couples from Ontario, Canada may rent a villa or condo or small resort next winter as we have done in Costa Rica, Mexico, etc. We would have to buy groceries, beer, wine, liqour, eat out in restaurants, rent a car (gas), etc. We have heard stories of $20 for a case of bottled water, $10 for a bag of potato chips, etc. Is this true? How expensive is it to stay on Aruba?

Not really sure where those people are buying there groceries but nonetheless. We find that most things (ie: groceries, liquor etc) are what we pay here in Alberta. Actually on that note the liquor is actually cheaper. We always say what we pay $14 here for a bottle of wine is 14AFL there. Restaurants are very comparable I think to Calgary. Gas maybe a little more expensive but you aren't driving that far distances. The water out of the tap is better than any bottled drinking water. As a guideline for a car we usually pay around $200 per week for a "small" four door car.

Of course if you want to buy groceries at the hotel convienance store the prices would be much more expensive but looks like you are planning on renting a condo which is a fantastic idea in Aruba.

I wonder how good those $10 potatoe chips are?:) hmm........

No need for bottled water in Aruba. Better and cleaner than you get at home.

The most expensive items are specific chip/cookies if you insist on North American brands. Standard grocery items are close in price to those in the States.
