fruits in season

Can anyone tell me if mango's are in season right now. We are going to the PCV on April 30 and are big fans of mango's. We have been to cuba many times but never in May. What other fruits are in season right now.

Thanks for any replies.

Really?! Avocado is in season?! I didn't think that it was this time of year in Cuba. Thank goodness for that. I'm vegan and sometimes struggle to find good food to eat in Cuba, but as long as I have lots of fruit and veg to eat, I'm happy. Just off to email my Cuban mother in law to see what else is in season, but would be happy to hear from anyone else what is about!

Thanks for that link Deb - very interesting! I always thought avocado was in season later in the year, as I have never noticed it in June when we normally go - but there was loads the time we went in October.

Have to agree with diva....it was the best avocado I have tasted!

I had a Mamey, from a fruit stand, up in the Escambay mountains back in April. Very tasty.

It is a local treat to have a Mamey Milkshake.

Recently when I was at the Beunavista I had fruit that I never had before. My wife told me of another woman who had been to Cuba 25 times before and she also had never seen or eaten it either. It was a very dark brown, shaped somewhat like a Kiwi Fruit, with a few large black seeds in the middle, pastey, sandy, sweet tasting, not unlike a Tamerand taste. Any suggestions on what it is called.

The inside of the Mamey is a fiberous, kind of a dull brown in color.

Not over powering with sweetness. but I found myself wanting more , bite after bite. A big hollow form the removed pit..

I can't imagine what a Mamey Milkshake or a Smoothie would be like.

Got to get back!
