Arrival and departure tax in Dominican Republic

We are coming from Toronto Canada and landing in La Romano, DR. I know there is a $20 US pp departure tax, but is there also any arrival tax? If so, how much and does it have to be in any specific currency?

Thanks,

Rod.

Hi Rod,

If your flying with Sunwing/Signature they are the only Canadian TO that dont include the taxes then its $US10 per person for your Tourist Card (entry) and $US20 per person for your Departure Tax both payable only in $US.

I have been living here for 4 years not and have only paid a tax when I stay over the 30 days that the tourist card, $10 when you come in, covers. I am an american citizen, so maybe only Canadians pay that. If you tour company is including this, then you are probably getting ripped off. If you stay less than 30 days, there is not departure fee.

Everyone pays a Departure Tax how ever long you stay in the DR, but as you are from the US it will be included in your air ticket price. For Canadians its also included in their vacation packages except for Sunwing/Signature as I previously mentioned above, also tourists from the UK have to pay for their entry (tourist card ) and Departure Tax as this is not included in our vacation packages either.

Jmeuser,

You are confusing the departure tax (which all airports charge i your ticket or separetly) with the overstay penalty that the DR immigration charges for stays over 30 days.

All US airlines include the departure tax ($20) in the cost of your ticket. That's why you are not aware of paying it. Other flag carriers don't necessarily iAds to the ticket cost and needs to be paid at the airport.

So, does that mean that I did not have to purchase the $10 tourist visa to get in to the Dominican because it should be included in my airline ticket price?
