thomsons thank you very much

No!!! Thomson have decided not to fly to the Dominican Republic next summer. It is my fiftie th birthday next year and i was studying hard for my choice of hotel. The only long haul from newcastle is mexico but it seems quite a bit dearer and more commercialised i quite fancy the palladiums having visited the Bavaro but 2 hours on the coach after an eleven hoyr flight may be a bit much

Unfortunately thomson and first choice both list it as newcastle and as i only live appx 3 miles away i am a bit lazy about travelling to other airports. By the way I thought east midlands was Derby pardon my ignorance if i am wrong lol

They are flying to the Dominican, just not from as many airports, starting with this winter. How about Manchester?

hi

I had a looksee earlier this week and they are flying from Manchester and Gatwick. They are stopping the recently introduced service from Glasgow which BGBuchanen found and useful.

It is going to getting harder and more expensive I think to go as there are going to be less flights going from less regional airports.

grhhhhhh

Sorry to hear - I celebrated my 50th bday late last year so I know how important it is to find the right place. We've been to a few resorts in Mexico which were great - a friend of mine spent 2 weeks at the Palladium in the Mayan Riviera and loved it - she actually said that it will be the first place she's going to return to. I'm confused about your comment "2 hours on the coach" - I wouldn't think it would be more than an hour to the Palladium from the Cancun airport but maybe you meant something else. Anyhow, if you want to send me a private message I can give you some ideas for Mexico if Punta Cana won't be possible - or you can also check out the forums over there (Puerto Morelos; Playa del Carmen; Puerto Aventuras).

no, they werent flying from birmingham in june they moved it to fly from east midlands!! living in east anglia and our nearest being airport being Stansted airport which they dont fly from, our then next nearest airport was birmingham, we could of gone east midlands but car parking was too dear, so we have eneded up going from manchester instead of gatwick as cheaper.

at least they havent stopped flying at all like thomas cook have!!!!

Thomson brochure says one and a half to two hours to the pallafium kantennah from the airport. Like i said i am a bit spoilt living 3 milesvfrom the airport and most of the other airports fly in the morning so it would mean an overnight stay and a train back. I would be open to other suggestions for mexico or as i have only really been to palladiums and iberostars

I am also confused by the 11 hour flight comment as PC is not that if you are flying direct from the UK

Unfortunately, we have to expect more of this as the recession bites as tour operators will go back to using 2/3 main airports
