Excellence is an hour from the airport in the northernmost Uvero Alto Beach area. Dreams Punta Cana is located there as well, but just to the south.

Secrets is more centrally located about 20 minutes from the airport in the Bavaro Beach area.

Here is a link to a regional map to help you visualize the resort locations:

Dreams Punta Cana used to be Sunscape The Beach, 4 or 5 years ago. AMResorts changed it to a Dreams after they lost the management of Excellence. Then they went about putting a Secrets in Punta Cana.

Excellence is not far from Dreams. Secrets is half an hour away or so.

ok that confirms the location - who do these properties compare to say MC or the Dreams which was a sunscape which In my opinion was first class for size, food and the beach - wow

I stayed at Sunscape, and also when it became Dreams. Dreams has about 600 rooms. Excellence has 450 rooms, and it's more spread out. In particular, the beach is less crowded. The resort runs along the beach, as opposed to back from the beach, so there's a lot more beach front.

If you thought Sunscape was first class, then you'll be very impressed by Excellence. It has a better beach, more a la carte dining options (no buffet for dinner), and better food. Like Sunscape and Dreams, there are no reservations for dinner. The lazy river pool is also better. It's deeper than the one at Sunscape / Dreams, and it runs along the beach, so if you sit by the pool, you're only a few steps to the beach. Service at Excellence is also better, although it did improve at Sunscape when it became a Dreams. The rooms at Excellence are much larger, and nicer.

I haven't stayed at that particular Secrets. Secrets is a notch or two above Dreams among AMResorts offerings. It competes pretty much head to head against Excellence. Excellence and Secrets do things similarly. This particular Secrets is different than others in that it's an adult only section of a larger resort complex, with some of the amenities such as theater, casino, and some restaurants at the family friendly Now Larimar. Secrets has 3 a la cartes and a buffet. I'm told the food at Secrets is quite good.

I haven't stayed at Majestic Colonial. I know some people who have stayed at each of them (Majestic, Dreams, Secrets, and Excellence), and they rank them Excellence, Secrets, Majestic, Dreams. Basically, for Excellence and Secrets, they say they'd go to whichever one is less expensive at the time.

Hi flip flop man,

We went to EPM las year and absolutely loved it.

We are looking at either Excellence riviera Cancun, excellence punta Cana or secrets royal beach .

Cost wise Secrets is the cheapest.....

We've been offered a master suite at excellence punta Cana and a swim up suite at Cancun for the same price what are your thoughts ?

Have you flown Thomas cook premium t either if these

Thanks

Hi Tracey

If you are going for 14 nights I personally do not think the SRB would be the right choice due to the limited dining option without going across to Now Larimar

If you have not been to Punta Cana before I would opted for EPC over ERC as the beach is so much better and it will give you a change of destination. Both ERC & EPC are great resorts. The food and service level at ERC is slightly better than at EPC and they are aware of this which is why they are working to bring it on par

If you are going for 14 nights you may want to look at splitting your trip between EPC & SRB - perhaps 8/9 nights at EPC and the balance at SRB

We have flown premium before but no longer think it is worth the extra money

Some of the swim-up suites at ERC can be quite far back from the pool, and without steps to get in and out of the pool. The rooms are larger at ERC though.

Most rooms at EPC are fairly close to the beach though, and I think it has better bar placement for service around the pool.
