airport to cayo levantado.

hi all,

was just wondering how long it takes from landing at samana(el catey) airport to actually getting onto the island.

It goes in stages. It took around 15-20 minutes to get the luggage and get on the bus. Then around one hour to get to mainland reception but we dropped people off at GBP Cayocoa first. We checked in there and got all our information. The boat was waiting to take us to the island and was around a 5-7 minute ride. It was only us and another couple checking in which made it quicker. Read here that lots of guests at the same time will slow down the process. Also the bus driver will stop for beers on the way there if anyone asks. So just over two hours for us. Hope you land during daylight as the ride is quite interesting.

Our transfer took 50 mins and was quite bumpy but they were doing roadworks and the road was much improved two weeks later on the way back to the airport.
