"Can someone point me in the right direction?"

It all depends on where you stay in Negril. First, some all inclusive resorts offer small boat (not catamaran/booze cruises) as part of the included offerings. Just show up and get on the boat at the specified time. The staff will tell you when the boat departs. Second, walk up and down the beach. You will a number of small boats that will take you snorkeling. The boat will have 'snorkel boat' or 'glass bottom boat' or something like that on the side of the boat

The best snorkeling is along the reefs that lie close to the Negril shore. No more than a 10 minute boat ride with a 25hp outboard motor. There are dozens of "captain" with their small craft just eager to take you to the reefs and back. They will provide all equipment and flotation vests, if needed. Typical cost is around US$20 per person.

Head to XTABI in the west end. They have great spots for snorkeling right off the cliff. Have a great meal/beverage with a chill vibe and spend some time exploring.

The swimming is great along the cliffs (where Xtabi is), and the snorkeling is 'ok'.... but rather lackluster compared to the reefs that HedoDiveMaster mentioned. There's a fair variety of tiny reef fish (most very small) & a few widely-spaced coral heads here and there. It's fun for avid swimmers/snorkelers (like me), but nothing great. The reefs are MUCH better - tho still nothing like Cozumel, Roatan, or other premier snorkeling destinations. It's all fun. :)

I'll add that Xtabi is one of our go-to restaurants on the cliffs. The location is beautiful & the food is good. It's a great place to go for a drink/snack and some nice swimming/snorkeling on the cliffs. Though the snorkeling itself is only moderate along the cliffs, Xtabi is one of the best places to go for it.

Stanley's Watersports run a shuttle to Booby Cay. Ring them when you wish to return. US$20 pp return.
