There is no "new" path to Colombier. A few years ago some improvements were made to the path from Flammands. This included some steps being carved into stones and brush clearning. The path from the lookout in Colombier is now a construction site at the top. Lots of trees were removed, making this steep climb more difficult due to lack of shade.

The island is very small, only 8 sq miles with few roads. You will have no trouble locating the trail heads to either when you are on the island.

I took the path down from colombier last week. There is a small parking area at the look out point in Colombier. It will hold 4-6 cars. The path starts off the the left of the look out. It looks like you are going down a driveway. This is a steep path that goes down to the beach. It is very wooded. You will go by a construction area very briefly. It was coudy the day we did the hike which helped. It is a steep hike but not as bad as we thought. Good work out but very doable. I am in my mid 50's.

Hi Twestrope,

We have done both ways multiple times and prefer the route from Flammands. It is slightly longer but much more scenic, flatter, and cooler in the shade. You get amazing views of Petit Anse and Flammands along most of the walk.

Frankly, if it is hot and sunny, the Colombier route can be downright dangerous if you don't have water.

Could you see what was going on at that construction site? The last time we went that way they were just building the roadway. That was about 2 years ago.
