Hello, We are going on a cruise in January and it makes a stop in Tortola. Is there much to do just walking around the port? Thanks for the advice!
A few shops - how long are you there - there are many other ways to get out and see some sights if you have say an 8 hour stay.
Thank you. Just there 8 hours. Debating an exuesion or just walking around.
8 hours gives you some flexibility! What are your port times?
You can shop near the pier before reboardung the ship, but you really, really should get out and see some of the natural beauty of Tortola. If you like gorgeous beaches just hop a safari taxi over to Brewers Bay for ~$8pp each way. Lovely Bay with that old Caribbean feel, and Nicole’s beach bar serves great drinks and food. Taxis will return to take you back to the pier. If you prefer a busier beach vibe Cane Garden Bay is the same distance and price with several restaurants/bars to choose from. The taxi ride is also a nice experience with many photo ops from the mountain top.
If you read some of the threads on the Tortola forum on cruise critic you will find a number of ideas for your day, including the Baths on Virgin Gorda, and the Rebel Yell to White Bay, Jost Van Dyke. You can also take an island tour, drivers at the pier offer group tours, some of which include a beach/lunch stop for ~$25pp.
You don’t need to plan ahead or take a ship excursion to enjoy Tortola, and the people there are also wonderful.
With 8 hours you can easily enjoy a beach or a tour on Tortola, and can even have limited time going to the other islands if you plan well. But we would recommend getting out there and enjoying your day on Tortola! If you don’t have lunch on the beach you may want to hit Pusser’s Road Town Pub after. They also have a great clothing line in their store there.
Bluewater said it all! Have fun!
Thanks everyone! we are there 8-545 so plenty of time to go out and about!
Are there any cash points near cruise terminal to get dollars ...thanks
