April (Easter / Spring Break Week) Weather/Crowds?

Hi all,

(our background) Am planning a trip to GCM (probably staying in the Mariott or Ritz Carlton). Was at 7 mile beach about 15 years ago on a cruise ship stop, thought it was beautiful. Have spent the last 9 Caribbean trips to Turks & Caicos.

All of our Caribbean trips have been during July or August. The weather in the summer when we have gone has been sunny & hot, it may rain for 10 minutes once or twice during the trip.

I am considering a 4 or 5 night trip to Turks the Spring / Easter break week of April 15 (when all the East Coast schools by us are off). Since I have never been to the Caribbean that month I just wanted to check in to ask;

What is the weather typically like in Grand Cayman in mid-April? (I was not sure when their rainy season was)

Are there problems with jellyfish or seaweed/sargassum usually in April?

How crowded are the hotels/ beaches? Is it insanely crowded that week since many schools are off?

When we go to Turks in the summer, our flights are usually 100% full, so we are used to that, but looking at the TA pictures of the beaches on 7mile beach vs, Turks Grace bay beach, the beaches look a lot more crowded in GC. The beach chairs look super close together on GC, whereas at Turks they are more spread out.

Thanks so much for any feedback, Marina

April weather is usually great. Sargassum and jellyfish are not usually an issue anywhere on the island that time of year. What type of accommodation do you stay at in TCI? If you want to avoid a crowded beach scene, a condo, not a hotel, is the way to go on Seven Mile Beach.

Ditto! The weeks before and after Easter are busy. April weather is uaually wonderful. Definitely SMB condo rather than a hotel. Many to chose from. Go to caymangoodtaste.com map of SMB to find names and precise locations of condos. Even this far in advance availability might be rather limited so act fast.

Where did you see those photos of a crowded SMB? Perhaps at the Marriott or Ritz hotel....or at Royal Palms or Public Beach (where cruisers are dropped off for a few hours). Other than those few spots, almost all of SMB is spacious and sandy. Condo beaches are never ever crowded. At all.

We went to Grand Cayman last year (late Jan. into Feb.) after going to T&Cs for years. We were surprised at just how crowded the Ritz and Marriott beach fronts were; however, we were more surprised - and happy - that the condo property beaches were less crowded than the condo properties on T&Cs. Think LeVele but with a deeper beach. A few of the slightly larger GC condo properties would compare to places like Tuscany and Venetian. If you are set on staying in a hotel, the Westin was busy but there was definitely room to move - think Seven Stars before their beach was expanded by last year's hurricane. Hope this helps

We were there last year over Easter in early April and it was fairly crowded at the resort (we were on the East End) over Easter weekend itself, but that eased up on Tuesday. Easter is a pretty big holiday on Grand Cayman and there were a lot of locals there for the weekend (I think most workers have Friday--Tuesday off). But the weather was beautiful and while it was crowded, it wasn't too crazy.
