Do locals prefer $EC or $US for their tips.

Would like to know from a local's perspective, what form of currency do you prefer when you receive tips? $EC or $US. Can get $EC before I leave so just want to know.

It doesn’t matter whether you use $US or $EC for gratuities both are equally appreciated.

Just so you know $US are accepted everywhere on the island so you can pay in either currency, however, in many instances if you pay in $US you’ll get change in in $EC.

As MNDave says you can get $EC from ATM’s around the island or exchange $US for $EC at any of the local banks (both will give you best rate of exchange) and most hotels will gladly convert modest amounts as an accommodation for their guests.
