Rums... again

I've been doing a ton of research on what to expect, where to go, and what to look for in the Rum category, while on Eleuthera. I was recently told by the Rumelier, to look for Afro Head and John Watling's rums. Can anybody tell me where I can fin these on Eleuthera an what the going prices are for them?

Also, has anyone tried different rums from the Ole Nassau and Ron Ricardo lines? If so, which are your favorites?

Thanks

We really like Ron Ricardo and can't find it in the U.S. so we always try to bring some home. We buy the RR coconut rum at Burrow's One Stop for $15.

We loved both the Ricardo coconut and pineapple rums and brought home several bottles (only 1 left awaiting opening when we book our return flight to the island). And the White Rum is also very good. But I will tell you honestly it all tastes alot better when you drink it there lol.

Afro Head is made by the Harbour Island Rum Company. The owner, Toby Tyler, also owns the Landing and that is the place to go to try this and other high end rums and wines.

Trying to figure out how much Rum I can bring back with me from the Bahamas and the cost. I looked at the TSA site, it says 1 liter per person untaxed, but people coming back from the USVI and Caribbean can bring back more. It also says there's no real limit, if you're over 1 liter, but it will be viewed as suspicious behavior and it would be taxed. How much in taxes do you have to pay? I was hoping to bring back 4 or 5 bottles.

You can bring back 2 per person to the U.S. But one of them has to be produced in the Caribbean. I don't know if they will give you the option to bring more, even if you do pay tax on them. I have heard of extra bottles being removed from checked baggage without the owner knowing until they arrived home. It may depend on where you are going through customs??

I'd suggest you go Cuban (Havana Club 7 year dark). Be careful bringing it into the states.

I was going to bring back Bahamian rums. We will be going through Miami customs. My wife will be traveling with me, but we share a bag. Is it 2 per person or 2 per bag?

You should make an effort to try Toby's Afro Head Rums, they are excellent high end blends of several different aged rums from different parts of the Caribbean. He have a number of different bottled Rums available of varying ages.

Found this, but it says per person, not per bag;

"ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES: US residents 21 years of age and over are entitled to include their duty free allowance 2 litres (967 fl.oz.) of liquor provided that one of the litres is the product of The Bahamas or another Caribbean Basin country. You may carry more than two litres provided you pay the duty and applicable taxes.TOBACCO: Regardless of your age, if you are eligible for the $600 exemption, you may include 100 cigars (not Cuban) and 200 cigarettes"

Yeah, I was told to look for it, but I don't know if it's available on Eleuthera. I know it's on Harbor Island, but we aren't going there.
